I just recieved a deck of Tarot cards, a bag of runes and other oracle decks as well as seveal books from my best friend. They had belonged to his older sister who passed away several years ago. I feel very honored that he would give these very personal items to me, but I am unsure if I should have them. A person's tarot deck is a very very personal thing, flowing with some of her energy. Is it wrong that I should have these things, or should I continue to make use of them?

No, I don't think it is wrong for you to have them. YOu can think of yourself as their custodian or steward. If you want to use them well get to know them...do they give you an uncomfortble feel? I have been given decks from the passed over or just friends who didn't click with them and still have gotten good results. Other decks of the same sort if they don't 'click' for me I pass on to someone else or just let them hang out with my other decks. You mentioned books too? YOu could read the books and hang out with the decks an runes. Touch and feel study them. See what they have to say...
    blessed be,

ps some would disagree with me which is fine
but it is what your heart tells you that matters

Its true tarot decks and runes can hold energies. especially if those runes are made from stone! I would cleanse the runes in sea salt water. And smudge the decks with sage.

people do not really "own" magickal items - the items choose who they want to belong to...if they were given to you, you were either meant to have them, or meant to pass them along later to someone you feel needs them at the time

i do agree that you may want to cleanse them though - an auric cleansing can work as well as a physical cleansing....like Delfynasa said - hang out with them, see what they have to say first - they may tell you how they want to be cleansed, or whom they may want to go to :)

yeah i agree one does not "Own" them. I have had experiences with that. I had a crystal that I just found one day in my house, no one knew how it got there, I had it for quite sometime before it just disappeared. i'm not saying it just sprouted legs and walked away, I'm sure it fell out of my bag or something, but I feel like it came into my life for a purpose and left my life when we no longer needed each other.

Its great to get something like that with a story, not just "bought at bookstore" stuff. Handle them like you would want someone to handle your own items and there shouldnt be any probs with using them. Its def a respect thing to get that passed along to you, I would think it would add to the mojo.

My Mother told me when she bought me my first deck of cards that they are supposed to be "gifted" to you or else they do not work properly. I don't really believe in this but it is interesting to hear about these beliefs. SO, saying that if you were given the divination tools mentioned you would still be following this...so yay!

I would just cleanse the tools before you and then carry them with you for a while to fill them with your energy. I wouldn't immediately leave them in a room or somewhere where they could fill up on energy other then mainly just your own for a while. :]

your mother told you right huldra, tarot cards should never be bought to be used by the buyer, but always given as a gift. :)

and yellowfever, they were gifted to you for a good reason, use them wisely and use them well. :)
