Do you give to charity? I do my best to help out as much as I can. I think the 'pull yourself upby your bootstraps' side are brainwashed into that argument by the worst kind of people. Someone I loved once told me, you don't need a reason to help people. I'm thinking about this because, I had a slightly irratating day at work. Coworkers... so I saw my sister had called. I called her back, ready to complain, and noticed her voice was off a bit, in a sad sense. I asked her what was wrong. About a month ago, she and her wife adopted a stray kitten. They already have three cat's, but you know, they already have a managerie at their house... anyway, the stray had eaten a string from a teabag. They had to take it to the hospital, because it had caused horrible intestinal damage. They had to remove two inches of intestine. But they had to come up with the cash before the surgery could begin. $1500 on a stray. They had the money because their finanical aid had come in days ago. They're not balling that much. They were going to spend the money on laptops. That's all gone now. But the kittys going to be okay. Seems like a lot of money to spend on a stray. Anyway, my sisters a saint I've decided. I tried to cheer her up by telling her shes the best kind of person.
I don't give to charitable organizations but I try in general to practice charity in my everyday life.
I don't have enough money to spend on that. I'd like to though... I'll throw a dollar in a jar here or there, but times is hard son.
I do give clothes I don't want anymore away to Salvation Army or thrift stores.. I also randomly give 20 dollars to a homeless person I like. I did the soup thing once.. for old people..
You and your cat look very pretty. Anyway, I give to charity as much as I can. I'm starting a charity project. But damn, that's charitable.
I am reluctant to money to charities. So much of the money is used on administrative costs and also ends up in the executive directors pocket. However I give time, and I give lots of it. I also donate items that organizations use and need. As far as the cat. I can't say I would do it for a stray. But if I had a strong connection to the cat I would likely spend even more to help it out.
i dont have enough money to donate it to every charity i see, but i'll put change in those little jars for charity at stores and stuff. i would also buy food for homeless people, and sometimes give them a little money for beer if they ask for it specifically, because hell, they're being honest.
i give hundreds of dollars a year to privet charities. i believe governmental programs are jokes and are in place to make politicians money. i like privet charities and i research a lot before giving most of the time. i give $2 a week to 5 different charities directly out of my paycheck every week. that adds up to a lot. $10 x 52 weeks = $520 a year. plus $20 a month to pennenviornment every time i see a legit charity with a jar i slip in a couple bucks. during Christmas time i gave the salvation army bell ringers $30 in change. it took forever to get that much change into the little slot in the bucket. a couple years ago i spent a week in Minnesota volunteering time at about 10 different places. i want to do that and more every year. i am a high school drop out with a part time job and bills to pay and i can still afford to give $600+ a year to charities. but its not about me, its not about pride(you guys are the only people that know abut my giving) its about the people that need help and can get it. it doesn't have to be money though. clothing, food, services are all thing that are in great need all the time.
I have donated a few things to salvation army I have done the soup kitchen a few times. I also give nickels when I have them, which is not often. I can't be given away dollars, a mans gotta support his family and all!
This is the answer. If everyone grasped this concept, no one person would have to do anything. By giving without asking for something in return... you only continue the problem. The problem of poverty must be solved at its very core... the situation of not being able to provide for oneself should have no place given our level of advancement... it may only exist because of greed. Everyone should have an opportunity to give and recieve... and could.
i give my money and time to a non-profit that has given me so much in life. they're the only place i've actually given a lot to + my time. they believed in me as a teenager and allowed me to grow into the person who i am today, so in hopes of furthering this company, i give so other kids can have similar opportunities to travel and experience life just like i did. i also donate old clothes i don't need or can't fit into anymore.
Money given to someone else to take care of the problem. A nobel concept... but your money could be much better spent on personal ventures that help promote the ideals that eliminate the situation in the first place... not on a band-aid to an infected cut. As has been said... much of your money is paying someone to do whatever you wanted to do with your money... creating yet more dependancy on money - the administration directly and those who benefit from the organizations efforts. Money could just as well be eliminated from the equation... a community can most definitely take care of itself... now think in terms of a world community.
I did the soup kitchen thing once. I would give more to people who are in need, but I don't even have enough to take care of myself properly. A friend of mine gives a lot, not necessarily to charity, but to people who need it. She always tips well, no matter what (five or ten dollars). She has cared for children that weren't hers (relatives). She gives money to people that need it (as long as they pay her back). She once offered to pay for some photography classes for me. I haven't taken her up on it yet, but it was very kind of her. This is the same woman who gives her roaches away and gives me leftover pot. Her reasoning for this is that since she has so much (wealth), she would rather share it with people who need it than keep it to herself. She's not rich, but she's done very well for herself and her family. I very much respect her.
No. I never give money to charity organizations. They are all corrupt. You should look up some of the statistics about them, they'll blow your mind. I do do charity work. I used to volunteer alot back in high school. Right now, there isn't much volunteer work that's not religion-based around these parts... so I just help the local kids out with the bike club, and opening a pantry. Little fun things.
