So now that I have fat dreads I can't use my pillow. So I've been sleeping on my mattress without anything but my hair the past month and wow....that shit is killing me.

    what do you guys do?

man it's like being elevated if I use a pillow---so uncomfortable.
I've yet to find a comfy position other than sleeping bag on grass. that's the best but I can't do that every night.
as much as I love having dreads
    it sucks

I don't understand what having dreads has to do with using a pillow. I have no problem with mine.

Hmm, perhaps time for a military style haircut then, go on shave it all off you know you want to, let your scalp breath...

Dreads are cool, but unless you condition the damn things, lotion, oils etc you can end up with things living in them, I was in a pub once with a girl from my college and one of her dreads fell off, she went "what the hell?" and someone got a pair of scissors and cut it in half, you should have seen what was living in there. It made her go skin-head straight away!

    wtf?
    living inside of a dread?
    that's pretty gross!
I wash my hair about twice a week with dr bronners sparkly magic oil soap ohhhh yeah

my dreads are really fat and sleeping on them is HELLA uncomfortable.
i can't believe no one else has a problem with this??
I've yet to find a comfy position my shoulders and neck need to be molested pronto.

Try sleeping on your front, they cant prop your head-up that way, although you might suffocate! The only other thing I can suggest is maybe trying a hammock, but falling out of one of those if you go to turn over in the night can be uncomfortable. Your pretty safe from the nit's if your oiling and washing it, I dont think the girl I met ever let her dreads see so much as a flake of soap!

Nothing will live inside your dreads dude. I havnt washed in a while but They are just forming and I rinse with hot hot water when I shower. No worries. Flip your hair upwards when you sleep so its like over your pillow.find different positions..?

try a really loose squishy pillow. older pillows are nice. or even a really flat pillow. good luck finding one that works :)

if that girl had nits it had nothing to do with her not washing them, just that she hadn't noticed she had nits and not gotten rid of them...which on her part is very stupid.

The only problem i have sleeping with my dreads is i have beads in a lot of them, and if i dont adjust them, i get a bead in the side of my head all night and wake up with a headache. Try one of those tempur-pedic pillows. they are relatively thin, and will probably solve your problem. If you are saying what i think you are saying, why not just sleep on the dreads? if they are supa cumfy then don't use a pillow!
You could also try just getting a thin pillow so you don't feel so elivated

I usually bunch mine up and throw them over my head when I sleep. :) That way I don't get a crick in my neck, either from having them lift my head at an uncomfortable angle above the pillow, or from them getting stuck under my or DH's torso. (ouch!) A couple weeks ago he surprised me by bringing home a couple of those fancy memory foam pillows from work. I love them! Took a couple nights to get used to, but they really give just the right amount. They seem to react to the specific shape/weight of your head, and it works great...

I sleep on my stomach with my head propped up on a corner of the pillow so I can breathe. Apparently I've slept that way since birth.

try cutting a t-shirt and sewing a long tube out of it, stuff your dreads in there, so their kindof piled on top of your head. so you can sleep on your side, back or front. this is just an idea. i've never tried this. but it might work
