Zelda:Link to the Past is my alltime favorite, but I also loved Ocarina of Time, Super Mario World AND Brothers. Does anyone remember Super Mario Land on Game Boy? I loved it too when I was little. It's funny, while all of you are talking about the games you grew up on. I actually couldn't play Zelda for a long time when I was growing up because I didn't have it, it was my cousin's game. And she would freak out if I even touched the console when the cartridge was in the system. I remember watching her play the original Zelda on NES and dying to play. It was years later before I finally got my own copy, and I've been hooked since. Other games I grew up idolizing were: Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 Skate or Die NES Super Ghouls and Ghosts SNES Super R-Type SNES and of course EVERY Mortal Kombat game ever made.
Off the list given I'd go with Zelda, I love that series. But I can't believe no one has mentioned CONTRA?!?! That game fucking owns. Try beating it with without the cheat code (only 3 lives), its intense. RBI Baseball is another favorite too. www.virtualnes.com - Play your favorite NES games online for free.
i really liked Starfox for the N64 and Super Smash Bros for the N64 as well, even though it might not be considered a classic. also StarCraft for the N64 was the 1337 PWNage.
Starfox 64 was a good game, classic, not really, but good. Now, Zelda Ocarina of Time...definitely a classic.
I say CastleTransalvania :Rondo of blood is my one of my classic games also Contra III the alien wars!
Mario 3, hands down. call me cliche if you want to, but its the only game where I can still consistently skool anyone that picks up the sticks.
When I was around 10, and the Atari 2600 just came out, I used to be able to clock pac man anytime I played it. It would take me about 4 hours straight, by the end of which my hand would be frozen like it was holding the controller for the next 2 days. Could also clock space invaders. That should really be on a list of classics, ... as should Asteroid. imo.
