Don't get me wrong, it is a fairly nice place, and even enjoyable at times. But damn, the place won't shut up late at night/early in the morning!!...fall, spring, summer or fall, it is always the same, it is always something! Street sweepers at 4 am, snow plows at 1 am (24 hours after the snow has stopped by the way but really unacceptable nonetheless), garbage trucks (or some loud truck) at 6 am or maintenance vacuuming outside my door at 7 am or maintenance outside yelling loud BS and blasting obnoxious music, always before 8 am, throwing god knows what into their trucks: clunk, clank, kaboom x50. Or, if it is not that, it is construction work outside the apartment, starting sometimes before 7:30 am: This summer, the city was redoing the sidewalk (new bricks) and digging deep into the ground to replace some pipes. Or if it isn't that, it is some dumb couple having wild monkey sex at 3 am (who has sex than?) for 3 hours (for that long?)...fine, have sex, we all like it, me, people on hipforums, everyone, WE GET IT, you like it too... but no one else wants to hear it! close your freakin' windows or something. Anyways, always something in Portland, something being loud. Can't these damn sweepers, maintenance folks and plows at least, come at a more respectable time, say after 9 am and before 10 pm??? and maybe the stupid couple can close the damn windows so the next three apartment complexes don't have to hear the corny moans and caveman grunts, so we can sleep at a decent time. So that is why I am here on Hipforums now, at 1 am. the loud banging of some truck doing something..I guess moving the snow..but hasn't that already been done? can't it wait until 9 am? couldn't it have been done 3 hours ago? ughh, sometimes Portland....sometimes.
Portland Head Lighthouse, Maine, USA That's because when everyone thinks of Portland, Maine they think of Portland Head Lighthouse. But that's like picturing Boston through the lens of Boston Lighthouse (The Great maritime symbol of New England) Hotwater
My kid sister and her husband live in Westbrook and Portland is a short drive. I'd love to live near there- noise or no noise.
how the hell can this place be so loud? Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Maine, with a 2004 population of 63,882. Is it the 2% african americans causing all the racket with their hip hopping?
well, it makes sense that all the maitenence and upkeep of the city is done late night or early morning...you know, because its quite hard to do so when theirs traffic and/or foot traffic going on in the city.
I live in the other Portland and right now there are 6 Mexicans walking around outside each with a 150 decible leafblower taking turns blowing around one leaf. Get an loud air cleaner for your bedroom, you don't even need to buy filters for it. It will drown out everything.
he's talking about the other Portland, the one maybe 1/20th the size Portland Oregon doesn't seem that loud either really
Ehh... If you can't beat them, then join them. (By blasting death metal at such an extreme volume that it sounds like a jet engine).
well there is a totaled new car right outside my apartment that has been there 8 months It doesn't make noise, but it sure does rock whoever was in it probably died
see, but no. I walked home from a late class around 8 pm..not to busy. Looking out the window now, at 11 pm, pretty dead. Couldn't they do it in the few hours leading up to midnight? I mean, 1 am..or 4 am, etc. is just to late. even 11 pm would be nice. Portland is pretty calm for the most part. But 63,000 I think is the center of Portland. if you include the suburbs and all of that, it is way higher.
maybe write a city councilor or something? maybe it'll change but the same shit happens in boston...i just got used to it. especially the early morning digging up street shit.
