ok so my hair is about 6 1/2 7 inches on the tops and like 6ish on the back or mybve i measured wrong i dunno... ok we will just assum they are 6 1/2 inches this is long enoff for dreads right i have thick hair so any info would be great, also ima have someone else do it.

also i want somewhat thick dreads so how big should eachlittle rubberband of hair be?

my hair was about that long when i started... as for thickness just experiment with a couple... maybe like 1.5-2 inches diameter for some nice thick ones. The rubberbands I used decided to melt into my hair (i missed taking out 2 or 3 after the first couple weeks) so i advise against taking the rubberband route. I have heard that there are rubberbands that dont do the melty thing but I haven't a clue what kind they are. If i could go back i would seperate with some little pieces of string or beads.

If your going for quite fat ones you can expect to lose quite a lot of length initially, a good few inchs i'd say!

umm,, no offense,, but why did you even bother asking here if your going to a salon to have them done?
because quite frankly, number 1,theres a 99.9% chance that that stylist doesnt have a fucking clue how to get the results you want, therefore its gonna turn out the way they make it not the way you want it..

and number 2,from what ive read here, theres a 99% chance all the stylist is going to do is FUCK YOUR HAIR UP ROYALLY.....

in the last 2 years i dont think ive seen 1 post about someone being happy about there "salon dreads",, sure as hell seen many a post about them being fucked up though...

no its a local person that does it or comes anbd helps me or something not a salon this person comes to my house and does it. salons are way to expensive. i was trying to get some info so when they got here i could just tell them what i wanted and i would know if they were fucking up my hair

my hair was only a bit longer than that when i started my dreads so you should be fine.

i have redid my dreads just before xmas and went from 65+ down to 37. they are about 1.5 inches and over in thickness andy yes i lost a fair amount of length, especially around the back of my head but i think it looks better ^_____^
