Has it not been proven by science that humans use about 1/3 or less of their brain? If so, this is all my opinion, then when using psychedelic drugs such as: magic mushrooms, lsd, cacti, etc., do we not open that part of our mind we cannot reach in our normal state of conciousness?
I've heard that the statement about how much of our brain we use is false; I myself believe its true, based on how much of their brain most people use. Psychadelics, as well as weed etc. should be seen as vital tools to open up our minds and reach enlightenment and awareness of the world.
That 1/3 thing (or 10% as I've heard it) is a myth (I should know, I've got a degree in psychology). But I think it stems from the FACT that we use about 10% (or 1/3, whichever you prefer) of our brain power. So if that's the case, then sure drugs can unlock the latent potential of our brains... but it could just as well hinder it. Take weed, for example. Weed has the effect of heightening the activity of the right brain (creative thinking) but also lowering the activity of the left brain (logical and rule based thinking). Caffein heightens both. Alcohol depresses both. Other drugs can heighten/lower other parts of the brain depending on where they're targeted.
that's really interesting, Gib 0101... it makes me wonder, when I smoke (get my right brain going, left brain resting), then drink a Sparks (Alcoholic Energy drink, stimulates and depresses at the same time) I wonder what's going on inside... I feel great, i know that much.
I've also heard it twas just a myth, but I have also heard that we do not know what the back portion of the brain is used for...
Perhaps entheogens make you use less of your brain, where your brain is a reducing valve, and more stuff can enter? Then it would be a matter of your capacity of digesting it all and using it to efficient advantage (sometimes less is more).
Wait, I thought it was true, but misinterpreted. I heard that it actually means we only use 1/3 of our brains at a time. As in for a single task. Can't remember where I heard it, but now repeating it, it sounds a mite fishy... Like certain tasks have to require more brian power than others, right?
I still think that in today's society, people are dumbing down. IQs are going down, people think less... but at the same time, there are still a lot of people in this world (like most of us) who continue to expand their minds and learn.
