that thread "i wish i was black so i could smoke blunts and blast ghetto music" reminded me of something i am noticing a LOT of as of late... okay so i have a lot of friends of all sorts, all of which are very smart articulate and have a lot going for them. Yet i hear a lot of smart black people called "whitewashed" simply because they dont talk hella ghetto and be smoking crack. as if a person cant be black AND educated if theyre educated, theyre "whitewashed"?? whatev. i guess all the REAL black people are out smoking blunts and speaking E-BON-ICS
thats like what people say about wayne brady...how he is a white man in a black mans body why can't people just be individuals? why can't people just be themselves and be accepted for it?
that's it...i'm taking this to the next level. i'm gunna talk to as many people from as many different bakgrounds as i can and ask them why they are how they are and see if they consider themselves to be their true self-no fronts, no sugar coating. we need to solve this mystery!
Black people are complete tools of white people. White people created this hip-hop culture, white people created the gangsta image. Well, or at least made it famous. White people fucken own FUBU. Keepin' the black man dooown. Niggas, get up and fight.
Hey, I agree with you, When I made the thread when I was stoned and it was after I had talked to my friend about it (he's black and he deals weed) and we were joking about how it would be so much easier for people to take me seriously if i was black. Honestly though I wasn't trying to be racist, hell I know a TON of black people who are way more intelligent/ educated than me, I was just saying that there are more succesful black men who sell weed than little white girls. that says nothing about the black guys who don't sell weed.
Because the skin color is associated with the so called "black" culture.... Black people are not always a member of the "black" culture - in fact a small minority fit those stereotypes, its the same wordplay as politically correct.... The biggest problem is that in general the separation isn't drawn - mostly because the black community itself has never stood up and *really* tried to kill all that bs... in fact many of the "leaders" almost seem like pawns trying to do exactly what doesn't need to be done....
I agree with the OP, but Wayne Brady is far whiter than just proper english and an education. Hell, he's probably a member of at least three country clubs.
Oh it sounds like someone has a serious problem. Its comments like these i wonder if youd say it around a few black people.
Racially? I'm sure a major % of his ancestors had dark skin. Culturally? As far as "black" culture is defined by the masses, he's a spook. Race not even factored in (as it has no need to be...)... he's a good guy, positive rap is something sorely needed - Will Smith did a great job with it. Not to mention he wasn't bad in I Am Legend. And comments like these is how the problem continues Everything must be able to be discussed... everything... Its how we solve problems. If you can't talk about it, you can't do anything about it. This topic couldn't happen around closed minded black/white/asian/indian/brazilian/african/ etc etc... anyone with an open mind doesn't consider race in the first place, its up to the person to embrace their racial stereotypes or be their own person
is this directed at me? because if it is, then i can assure you i have discussed this "around a few black people" it was, in fact BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION by a black person
"This topic couldn't happen around closed minded black/white/asian/indian/brazilian/african/ etc etc... anyone with an open mind doesn't consider race in the first place, its up to the person to embrace their racial stereotypes or be their own person" Bullshit. Coming from a white man, sure. But if you were someone who was constantly reminded of the fact that you are black, and the negative stereotypes that it entails, do you honestly think that race would not be an issue?? To the original poster...I totally agree with you. people should not be judged on their skin color compared to how they behave. I would also add that someone can be educated and well behaved and still be what most people would call black...what Im saying is dont go thinking that "white acting" = educated, or vice versa.. Also I am curious do you have as much sensitivity on this issue when it comes to people being called "wangstas," or something like that. If the well-done marshmellows of this world should be accepted for what they are, then shouldn't the white chocolates as well?? (I just made that well done marshmellow thing up on the spot, and I don't condone its use...was going to use burnt marshmellow but didnt seem very PC.)
You reminded me of the color of my skin, I don't care... I'm reminded quite often, and I don't care. Anyone could say that. Whatever the race, you either embrace the stereotype or you are your own person... to say you "must" fit within a set of racial standards is to be a racist. Why does race concern you at all? Instead of focusing on how things are... perhaps it would be a good idea to focus on how things should be, then live as you wish everyone to live? Does your current attitude allow for a truly better tomorrow? Feel no need to reply, rhetorical questions
I think you misunderstood me. I don't think people should lump themselves in over here, over there, etc...But to say that "to any open minded person, race is not an issue," well I just find that to be very untrue. You see, when your own skin color is an adversity for you to overcome, not because you decided to make it one, but because that is a fact of society...well I wouldn't call you "close minded" for being somewhat concerned with racial issues.
If you are open minded, race *is not* an issue... to say otherwise is to not be open minded . Forget your definition of politically correct here... thats just wordplay to push an agenda, nothing correct about it. Your skin color is NOT an adversity. People in search of "the man" will find him, no matter their race. Have to stop thinking in colors first, then you can see how ridiculous it always was. Its a cultural thing, not racial... and culture *does not* infer genetics, anyone can out-think their body
This is very significant. Although hip hop wasn't a white thing at one time... powerful hands touched it, and now it is what it is - shoot-em-up and icetastic bologne. What got to be popular was not the choice of the hip hop community, now the hip hop radio stations in chicago are pop stations... long gone are the true rap stations of way back when, swallowed up and now commercialized by clearchannel. These things are not accidental... but they do not have to be embraced... Biggest issue is that a minority of a minority DOES embrace it, and live by its well-defined madness - terrorizing exponentially more people.... so blindly lead....
