does cutting the pill make it less effective?

I started the pill yesterday, I have a bit of a problem swallowing medication, even ones as small as birth control pills, so I've cut them up to make them go down a bit easier. Am I ruining the effectiveness of the pill?

After my first one yesterday I felt sick most of the evening, which is one of the side effects anyway. So does that mean it's working? Or would it be too early for side effects to kick in?

Any info would be greatly appreciated [IMG]

You should ask your doctor about it asap, definitely before you start relying on them as the only form of contraception.

At the moment I'm only using them for my period pain, but I will check with my doctor to see if it's okay. Thanks for the input! :)

im fairly certain it doesnt change their effectiveness, but i could be worng. one of my friends back in HS couldnt swallow pills so she had to grind em up. iirc, pills dont have any special coating on em or any time release shit so it shoudl be fine - but double checking with teh doctor is the best (or if you have a free health information line that nurses could answer, or planned parenthood to call, if the doctor is inconvenient)

I don't think it should effect it, I mean, it's the same dosage once it's all in your body, right?
I'd still check with the doctor though, it's not really something you wanna gamble with.
