has anyone that lives where there isnt a frost tried to grow during the winter as an experiment? if so how did it go? im kind of curious to see if anyone has ever had success with that. I would think if they didnt get a frost it would bud earlier stay shorter, but you probably wouldnt get as much bud. Then again it probably wouldnt work that great.
I've never tried it with bud, but being and impatient gardener in california, I would always try to get a jumpstart by planting early. What happens on almost all spring/summer crops is that they just stay one size until planting season and then take off. I'd imagine it'd be similiar with bud, which just increases work and exposure I don't have specific experience, though
i tried planting early january.. so far its not working out not enough sunlight for me.. you think growing in bamboo will mess it up?
starting early, even if the top pf the plant just sits there, the roots will be growing and will increase survival rate and yield. if it's cold use a tree shelter. it surrounds the young plants and acts like a greenhouse. here's an example: http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/product_pages/View_Catalog_Page.asp?mi=2624
