what year was that? I saw them at a free concert in Hyde Park, must have been in the late 60s.

I'm not a Levellers fan myself either, they remind me too much of the anarchist crusty scene, whereas I'm more of a socialist with hippie philosophical leanings.

When did I see the Edgar Broughton Band in Huddersfield? Good question, it was a long time ago, I also saw Babe Ruth and I believe, Be Bop Deluxe at the same venue. I can't be exact but it would, I think, be 1972 or '73.
As for the Levellers gig, I'll be the grey haired old git near the front, usually just off to the right with my son and daughter for protection!

I'm a socialist without the philosophical leanings, but I still reckon they're a great band....

yeah, good music is good music, never mind the politics. As Jerry garcia said, "we just play music".

I'm just a socialist too, it is one of the reasons I'm a Levellrs fan, but it's by far not the only reason.

Have you checked out their myspace? Two new songs from their forthcoming album up there, quite political and very old school sounding....

Funny enough Nerthus, they did quite a lot of changing in my life too. The music persuaded me to be more open about my political ideas and to be a bit more proactive about it. And One Way became my theme song lol. First time I heard them was on myspace, it was battle of the beanfield, which is still one of my absolute favourite songs!

hahah...oh dull, very dull. although i probably worked harder, and did less illegal stuff. i can't really remember, it was like four years ago now. but a loser, i know that much.

nynysuts, yeah battle of the beanfield is one of their best! i've never seen em do it live, and i've been told this is because lots of hippies get angry and tend to cause trouble (poor security). but then that could be a lie, it came from a dubious source.

my friend claims that his mum is the 'pregnant woman, lying in blood of her own' in that song, which is possible as his family were travellers around that time. did some adding up and i'm not sure any of her kids are the right age though. i never entirely believe anything he says. :)
