For some reason my musical tastes change as it gets cold. I start listening to Neil Young's acoustic work more and the grateful dead.... I always have "Touch of grey" stuck in my head. Does that happen to you? Right now I'm going through my "spring/fall" phase early as a cold front is stuck over us and I'm listening to a lot of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds.
dave mathews?? dude you gotta be kidden. i got one word for him, trendy. but i do know what you're aying, i tend to go back and forth between metal and folk.
you are aware hes a republican correct? and that he's a maintream yuppie that gives rich people a place to go and smoke dope and think that theyre somewhat hip for liking him. tsk tsk. but to each theyre own, but you should know better man.
For some reason people on here like Ted Nugent... he's a republican... He does support farm aid though... which is an anti-factory farming organization... A lot of people around here are republican just because someone else around here is... my family's background was republican... they were all military officers and before that one side in my dad's family were royal military in England and part were clansmen and sailors in Scotland... some lived around the whereabouts of Isle of Skye... Then my grandmother, when she lived in Bali during WWII, married a Japanese piolet who was in the war so she wouldn't be killed... then he died and she married my grandfather who worked in military intelligence...desk job basically... doesn't mean I'm republican... plus there's a republican who represents my local district in congress and she used to be my neighbor... she has quite liberal views on certain issues and really has middle-of-the-road beliefs... but she only did it to get into office as to everyone around here is a republican... but she really isn't a bad person. I don't take peoples political ideals into everything though... just because someone doesn't have the same ideas as I do doesn't mean they aren't good at something unrelated. Sometimes you have to get into their mindset and attempt in seeing what they are seeing... but just because they have freedom of speech doesn't mean they aren't full of shit either. tsk... tsk.. tsk...
Well I listen to loads of different bands and artists, but for the last few months, almost religiously, I've been listening to Neil Young. Acoustic and Crazy Horse. Everything he does. I throw in a bit of Kings of Leon and The Doors to try and keep some sort of balance
ive been listening to a lot of csny and early pink floyd lately...and the who...and canned heat....and moby grape....blind melon....jimi hendrix live at berkeley.....um...thats been about it
Oh, speaking of Dave Matthews and trends... I remember when his concerts used to be free every Tuesday in Charlottesville up at the trax... he still lives in Charlottesville as far as I know... I liked him better back then though. Then he started building up a local fanbase and evolved... people change I guess. He was pretty much "indie" back then.
Dave Matthews Band is not too bad. Either way, it's not up to me. Anyway, I understand what you mean. I think it's fairly natural to enjoy music based in a minor key more during the fall and winter. It's such a dark and cloudy time, but I love, love, love fall! Winter I could do without. I like a lot of Kansas when in the winter, although I like them all the time, I like them most during the winter. I also like a lot of Mozart, especially his Requiem in the winter time. The Requiem just doesn't work in a covertible at 75 degress and sunny, somehow.
Well, major key music always has an "up" sound, so putting sad lyrics to a major key, or trying to make a song based in a major key a sad song is pretty futile.
I don't know if it's the weather, but I seem to be listening to a lot of The Velvet Underground and The 13th Floor Elevators lately.
I like Velvet Revolver, but I think Slash was better in Guns 'N Roses. Scott Weiland's voice kind of bothers me a little bit, too.
Perhaps you misread my post. I said I was listening to The Velvet Underground, not Velvet Revolver. Haha, I would never listen to Velvet Revolver.
Oh, yes. I did, in fact, misread your post. I'm not really into the Velvet Underground either, but opinions are opinions, are opinions. Lou Reed is a cool guy, though.
