Hello I've been browsing the forum for some time now absorbing information but I finnaly have a specific question not answered. I am going to get a 400w HPS lamp and I was wondering how many plants can I grow under this one light the space I'm growing it is 2 feet wide and somwere in between 4-5 feet long. So I was wondering how many plants I can grow under that one light and not short change any of the plants on light. Thx for any and all help. O yea might as well ask wut you guys think is the best poting soil to use that has a good ph? I once used this miracle grow moisture control it has a decent nitrogen level and come with peralite already in it, it also tends to retain moisture very well.
A 400 will light a 4'x4' area nicely. # of plants depends on how high you let them grow. At 4-5' you can have ~ 4-5 girls. With your layout (closet?) you will have to trial and error it a bit. Part of the fun. Potting soil - hmmmm - any generic brand sterlized with no nutes, mix 20 - 30% perlite, pH adjust your water (~6 - 6.5 units) add nutes to the ppm required.
Well for the inexpensive stuff Peter's 20-20-20 (<- good stuff though you should add some epsom salts for mg once in a while) for more $ General Hydroponics line either the standard stuff or the FloraNova series (basically 1 set is 3 parts the other 2). Then a GH cheap pH test kit and a bottle of pH Down. 1 ml/gal will drop the pH into the right range.
