I want to convert to buddhism and I was wondering if you had any information on like stories and teachings of Budda. I know the 4 Noble Truths, 8 fold path, 5 precepts, just the basic stuff. Thanks for any help you give me . I also have I question on meditation. This is the routine I do. I sit cross legged with my eyes close concretated on my breathing. I then count from 1 to 50 trying to get more relaxed. Then once I feel like I'm relaxed I try to think of all of the people I can think of and say that I love them. I was wondering if you had any suggestions or different techinques. Thanks.
I studied Buddhism at college, our text book was by Denise Cush. She's a good writer on the subject. Oh and the dali lama's books are great too. Good luck with your quest I'm not really Buddhist, just studied it for a while and agree with many of the principles.
Check out /www.accesstoinsight.org/cgi/search/search.pl?Terms=meditation They have a lot of free books on vipassana meditation techniques. Regards, Steve
When you first start meditating it is best not to mix different techniques. The counting of breaths is usually the best to start with, and is universally used in most Theravadin and Zen monasteries. It is a very simple technique but if you do it faithfully you will eventually develop a tremendous degree of concentration. Steve
Check out http://www.buddhanet.net/pdf_file/4nobltru.pdf aswell for a great easy to understand explanation of the 4 Nobles Truth which will give you a great foundation in Buddhism.
Meditate the infiniteness of the universe, the deepness of the sea, the vastnes of the sky, the countless stars, and things like that as to the rest i know about as much as you - basic stuff about selflessness and compassion
Let your love become infinte and natural, focus on being at one with and grateful for your existence. Interact with each moment of life as it presents itself miraculously before your eyes. Enoy.
