its been a long time since i'd had a cup of earl grey....a long time... i forgot how good it is! and unlike most other teas, it lends itself well to adding a little milk (in this case soymilk) just finished a big old cup of it to wash down lunch and help make the afternoon more bearable (i only managed to get an hour or two of sleep last night, though i spent a good 8 hours or so laying in bed...i had to be at work at 6 am, and have to do the same thing tomorrow, and then monday i have to be in at 5.....then no more early mornings for me for a little while....anyway, i wasn't used to going to bed so early, so i got next to no sleep last night, and so i can't take a nap this afternoon or i'll be up late again tonight, which i can't do since i open two more days after today) anyway, its a great type of tea.....really a nice compliment to a full belly and a pipe full of herb...
When my family owned a coffee shop we had ALL kinds of tea, Earl Grey was one of my favorites.. but have you ever tried Jasmine Pearl? Thats the best IMO.. ya gotta try that sometime
my favorite has to be russian caravan but earl grey is pretty good too. This thread has also inspired me to make a cup of tea since i cant remember the last time i had some
i haven't, but i've wanted to. there are a number of types of tea i want to try, but i only have access to getting a limited few for free. i particularly like green teas. my favorite types are bancha, matcha, and genmai cha...unfortunately i get none of these for free. spiced black "chai" teas and various brands of earl grey are the few black teas i really like though. oh, and constant comment, and tazo citron. black tea is good iced sometimes, though. but in general, i know there are good plain unflavored/scented black teas out there, but i've had more exposure to better tasting green teas, so they're kind of what i favor. i do like some herbal teas, too, though. hibiscus is great! so is mint or occasionally chamomile
That was the best part of having a coffee shop.. I got to experience them all for free. Im also a fan of the green tea's. You just reminded me of Chai! I LOVE spiced chai!
chai lattes are good, too....all that milk takes the edge off the spiciness..... they dont sell it where i work, but green tea chai is good, too!
yeah its pretty good! i do know there are a few retail concentrates on the market for at-home use....more diluted than the concentrate used in coffeeshops, you usually mix it 50/50 with hot milk
wow, tea connoisseurs. im not really a tea guy, sometimes ill have a fruity tea < never the simple ones though. more of a coffee guy... mocha FTW!!
all kinds of tea are bangin' I don't know what I'd do if I had to go the day without a cup of tea, guess I'd just have to go rob a coffee shop Irish breakfast is the best though
oh, i LOVE coffee, but i'm not a big fan of stimulants (my favorite is unrefined coca tea or coca tea extracted in vodka....both of which are a decent bit milder in stimulation than coffee, in similar doses, but which are a lot less unpleasant than caffeine in larger doses) i just can't handle too very much caffeine or i get all sweaty and jittery. i work in a coffee shop and i LOVE coffee drinks....the fancy ones are good, but i still kinda prefer black coffee or plain espresso over anything.... but i can't do the high caffeine content all the time, and tea is really good for me and tastes good, too, even if it doesnt have as much flavor as coffee. i dont drink coffee every day, and in fact i'd say about 4 or 5 days out of the week i go without coffee, and stick to tea or caffeine free. coca is expensive and i have to get it shipped, so i haven't bothered to get any except the one time last year....got my money's worth, in my opinion, but if anyone does try it don't expect it to be anything like refined cocaine. its NOT like doing coke....but it is a pleasant, mild stimulation. better when mixed with herbal or green teas to smooth out the flavor, though. chamomile works well. but coca tea by itself isnt great. drinkable, but not too tasty. the extract is very nasty. but mixed in some cola, its actually delicious.
lol the things that get you guys excited... Wouldn't expect it to be a cup of earl gray! I'm not a tea drinker. I need my fresh ground coffee everyday.
Me too. I gots me a coffee bar that has a built in grinder and Drunkin' Donuts has nothin' that comes from my kitchen.
anyone who likes fresh black brewed coffee ought to try a coffee press...they're a bitch to clean, but offer the best possible flavor, saving the largest possible quantity of the flavorful oils in the beans. coffee from a regular brewer just isnt the same....using a metal filter helps get it closer, but its still not quite as good. coffee presses are definitely my favorite way to enjoy coffee, with only espresso surpassing it....
Never used a press... I do have a metal filter for my machine. I'll have to give the coffee press a go sometime.
any good coffeeshop should be able to make a coffee press for you...use a coffee you already know you like, but depending on what kind of coffee you drink you'll get varying results. in my opinion, any good coffee is better out of a press to some degree, but darker roasted, more oily coffee beans do far better from a press than lighter roasted, duller looking and more acidic coffees. having one set up for you in a coffee shop may cost a bit, but will be far less expensive than buying a press without having tried one before. not everyone likes them, and not everyone who likes them is as appreciative of them as me....but then i know people who won't drink coffee any other way, too. coffee for a press must be ground more coarsely than when brewed in a machine so as not to clog the plunger. if the press uses a glass carafe instead of a metal body, then clogging it up can break it. also, since the grounds are never fully removed from the hot water, if you ground it as fine as normal it would come out tasting bitter and overextracted. since the coffee for a press ought to be ground differently than for a brewer, the shop may give you more options than just whatever they're brewing at the time. i'm a big fan of coffees from african origins like ethiopia and kenya, and there are some good coffees from southeast asia and the pacific from places like indonesia ("java" is one of many places in the region known for coffee, and the origin of the more colloquial reference to coffee itself....similarly "mocha" is a port in the middle east which was important in the early coffee trade in europe...it originally had nothing to do with chocolate, unlike the common use of the word in the west today) coffee is delicious. i almost wish i liked caffeine and wouldnt get heartburn if i just drank coffee all day...i love it. but i hate being wired up, and it doesnt wake me up or get me more alert....just makes me feel jittery.
i like tea and coffee but this thread makes me feel bad about my numerous cups of craptastic 500-teabags for £1.00 tea... lol. what mixes well with ordinary crap tea? you know, to make it a bit more interesting?
