After last year being the worst year of my life i am no longer a vegan. Partly by my choice and by my doctors, although I am still a vegetarian. I have a condition called Homozygenous MTHFR which is a gene mutation that causes my body to overproduce an enzyme called homycystene.Homocystene is usually broken down by folic acid, but my body doesn't utilize it properly causing the homocystene to build up. this is why I had two miscarriages last year, and why I decided for my own better being I am no longer a vegan. The cost was putting us in the poorhouse as well becasue I have to shop at a local health food store here for everything I needed to eat and with me missing so much work for surgeries and things it just wasn't budgetable. But like i said i am still a vegetarian
I truly believe that you should eat the way your body tells you to eat. From my experience, I think people truly believe that veganism is completely healthy for all people, which is not the case. You know this from your condition. The only reason that I am not a vegan is because I am completely healthy right now and I wouldn't want to jeopardize this. Good luck on your journey.
i have a friend who was vegan for six months and he says he felt like shit most of the time. there's no real explanation, he was definitley eating a wide variety of foods and complete proteins. we cooked together sometimes and made all sorts of good things, tvp tacos and burgers, seitan, rice and beans, tofu dishes... he is very active and rides his bike everywhere and that may have had something to do with it, but i dont know because i have heard of vegan tri-atheletes.. he is not vegan anymore, and says he feels better. really weird huh?
I Seriously Think Sometimes That It Depends On The Person..i Definitly Gained Weight While I Was A Vegan Too, And Since I Added Back My Dairy, Ive Thinned Out A Bit..too Weird
Sad to hear about your health, but to the others folk, when I went from vegetarian to vegan I felt so much better, and my 5K times improved about a minute or a minute and a half. So veganism is the way to go for me.
i eat fish and seafood sometimes if i cook it myself. i don't drink milk, but i eat cheese. i mainly stick to soy, veggies, salads... that keeps me healthy and happy and the proper weight. if i cut that stuff out of my diet i feel like i'm way too thin.
My second son(27) has been vegan since he was a soph in high school.I tried it with him for a year but that was long enough for me.I loves me cheese.
Ouch, good on you sticking to the veg side of things even through that though. You could always go freegan if you had the time/energy to rummage through skips/dumpsters for packaged food thrown out by supermarkets.
