I only want a car for my drums man, im in a band, I cant skate with my drums all packed up on me.
Otherwise I hate cars, I wish the weather was better so I could walk all the time.

 

well 3 miles to the store takes me 45min. to work used to take a whole lot longer 30 miles with a thumb! to and from! so kinda 12 to make 6 in the winter if im lucky!summer s a bit easier (not hitchin in the dark) hay do what you have to to make it better! now im working part time for a very talented smthie! and learning a lot!!! i can walk in less than an hour, and i love it dosnt quit pay the bills but im learning a new trade!!!! if i could drive! i would put halve of you to work! but im liking this blacksmithing!! woo hooo!!!! peace!

Wow.. Cosmic I'm real impressed by your posts man. What of them i can read before my mind goes numb from too much info at one time is shocking an well thought through. Don't worry tho I plan on comin' back to read them over an' over till I finally grasp it all an' understand.

On another note I plainly remember stating this evident truth in another post at some point on some thread. (be it this one or another I don't know) Technolodgy is not evil. As a matter of fact technolodgy is a damn straight blessing from Gaia herself to us her children. If you look at history an' the evolution of technolodgy through the ages you'll see that in most cases of advancement it was somehow fueled by a natural occurence or discovery. For instance when aclhemy (probly spelled that wrong) transformed into modern science. Look into it an you'll see my point. Without these advancements we'd still be stick weilding idiotic fire gazers. Not that some of us don't still do such arcane things (cough cough) We simply have twisted an' contorted the technolodgy that our Mother has supplied us with into man's technolodgy, which is what is going to eventually kill us. I've never personally owned a car.
Since I was 17 I've biked everywhere I need to go. I also don't see any reason to own a car in the future. Plus, I don't have a drivers licence, so I don't really want to waste my time to get one.

 

look... i totally agree: cars suck and the ruin our air quality and because of them, cities are expanding way too many roads and not growing back the land they destroyed making the roads. but, unless someone holds their hand, most people aren't going to give up their cars and start riding bikes, no matter how good of an idea that is.
my friend and i came up with the idea to have thousands of public bikes lying around cities so people have that first step taken for them (to have the option of riding bikes instead of driving cars). besides the fact that riding bikes everywhere is much more evironmentally safe, it is also economic. it would cost a lot less to have a couple hundred bikes stolen then to have to expand roads every two years.
either way, this is something is going to have to start really locally because i'm sure that if someone announces, "hey, man, stop using cars" to the whole damn country, nothing will change. however, if you start with a really tight-knit local group that decides to not use a car for a year, that can inspire people.

the "public bike" idea is awesome, and I totally would go for it! Like, have stations all throughout the country... people can pick up a bike, bike to their destination, leave the bike for someone else... millions of bikes, all over the country.

 

A lot of European cities have a public bike system. Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Lyon, Paris and so on.
All you do if drop in a deposit, then return it to another bike station.

I also believe Montreal is either going to be starting one, or has one already.

- Russian scientist says Earth could soon face new Ice Age -

"ST. PETERSBURG, January 22 (RIA Novosti) - Temperatures on Earth have stabilized in the past decade, and the planet should brace itself for a new Ice Age rather than global warming, a Russian scientist said in an interview with RIA Novosti Tuesday.

"Russian and foreign research data confirm that global temperatures in 2007 were practically similar to those in 2006, and, in general, identical to 1998-2006 temperatures, which basically, means that the Earth passed the peak of global warming in 1998-2005," said Khabibullo Abdusamatov, head of a space research lab at the Pulkovo observatory in St. Petersburg.

According to the scientist, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere has risen more than 4% in the past decade, but global warming has practically stopped. It confirms the theory of "solar" impact on changes in the Earth's climate, because the amount of solar energy reaching the planet has drastically decreased during the same period, the scientist said.

Had global temperatures directly responded to concentrations of "greenhouse" gases in the atmosphere, they would have risen by at least 0.1 Celsius in the past ten years, however, it never happened, he said.

"A year ago, many meteorologists predicted that higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would make the year 2007 the hottest in the last decade, but, fortunately, these predictions did not become reality," Abdusamatov said.

He also said that in 2008, global temperatures would drop slightly, rather than rise, due to unprecedently low solar radiation in the past 30 years, and would continue decreasing even if industrial emissions of carbon dioxide reach record levels.

By 2041, solar activity will reach its minimum according to a 200-year cycle, and a deep cooling period will hit the Earth approximately in 2055-2060. It will last about 45-65 years, the scientist added.

"By the mid-21st century the planet will face another Little Ice Age, similar to the Maunder Minimum, because the amount of solar radiation hitting the Earth has been constantly decreasing since the 1990s and will reach its minimum approximately in 2041," he said.

The Maunder minimum occured between 1645 and 1715, when only about 50 spots appeared on the Sun, as opposed to the typical 40,000-50,000 spots.

It coincided with the middle and coldest part of the so callled Little Ice Age, during which Europe and North America were subjected to bitterly cold winters.

"However, the thermal inertia of the world's oceans and seas will delay a 'deep cooling' of the planet, and the new Ice Age will begin sometime during 2055-2060, probably lasting for several decades." Abdusamatov said.

Therefore, the Earth must brace itaself for a growing ice cap, rather than rising waters in global oceans caused by ice melting.

Mankind will face serious economic, social, and demographic consequences of the coming Ice Age because it will directly affect more than 80% of the earth's popultaion, the scientist concluded."

I don't drive anyway. I just walk or take public transportation everywhere.

 

There are 2x big park taxes for huge cars in one town in England. This rule should spread on all of the country. Hurray.

 

Yeah, I haven’t drove for a few years now it supports too much bad stuff, wars, police ect.
I am lucky and live in a place where there is lots of public transportation and you don’t need a car.

It is hard in a lot of places in the western U.S. there is literally NO public transportation some places and hitch hiking is not an option.

Cars support bad shit if everyone stop would driving a lot of bad stuff would go away.

 

yeah I live close enough to a town where I dont need a car anyway I dont have a licence nor do I think its nessesary to where I need one all cars are are a strain on your wallet and the enviornment so to all the people whos called me lazy or to all those people who didnt want to hang cause I dont have a car I have one thing to say to you : FUCK YOU and your toyotas I dont want them!!!! that felt good.... anyway BOYCOTT CARS get out there and walk you lazy bastards enjoy the look and smell of a cleaner planet
