I am JUST recovering from a 2-week bout of flu, and am still fighting off the last stages of chest-congestion. Now I've been avoiding my soymilk because DAIRY milk has always increased congestion in me. But yesterday as my husband watched me make my Quinoa flakes with straight water, he asked "Isn't that a dairy thing? Wouldn't your soymilk be okay?" and to be honest, I have no clue! I did search a bit online, but it seems that every site I looked at disagreed with the last. So I'm asking... does anyone here have any PERSONAL opinions or experience with this? I'm not exactly a huge milk-drinker, I'll add 1/3 cup to my cereal in the morning, and about 2/3 cup to my evening tea... but I'd love to know if this would hinder my healing! It might be too late for this time, but I doubt that I'll escape the flu for the rest of my life & it'd be nice to know for the future! love, mom
I've never noticed it. I don't see why soy milk would have the same effect as dairy. They're completely different things. Soy milk is not really milk. It just looks something like milk, but in its purest form is just soy beans and water. Commercial brands may contain various sugars and such. If soy beans don't cause you problems, soy milk won't. Same for almond or rice milk.
That makes a LOT of sense! Thanks treehugger I will have to check out almond & rice milk as well - it's just that I get such a great deal on organic soymilk (unflavored) through Costco... and cost does have to figure into my diet, unfortunately. love, mom
