ok my friend dave is now my new hero, for giving me a bag full of really loud colorful, wonderful neckties! he was just going to take them to the goodwill, can you believe it?

there are maybe 10 to a dozen neckties, two bowties (the "real" kind you have to tie) and a bunch of suspenders. there's also a "fake" bowtie that's going into the kids' dress-up box and one of those vest-front-things that are worn with tuxes, which i'm trying to come up with something to do with.

i decided i'm probably going to cut the ends off the bowties and sew them together and embroider them as "kissing fish" to be used as patches for something; i figure that will look cute on a bag, or on something for the kids; maybe on a quilt for shakti or mending a hole in damien's jeans.

i have one pair of jeans with neckties sewn in for bellbottoms - i got that idea here, and they look great. they're actually my favorite pair of jeans. but currently i don't have any more jeans to alter, and the thrift store hasn't had any in my size. what else can be done with neckties? dave has wonderful taste; they're really loud! a hippie crafter's fantasy - he didn't know what a treasure he had, i can't believe he was just going to donate them.

the suspenders...what do i do with them? i was thinking of recycling the elastic as skirt waistbands, but some of it's rather too pretty to hide in a casing. the clips i'm going to use to make...whatever you call those elastic clippy things people used to wear to gather the fabric in the back of big shirts. i have a dress that's too big around the middle & i don't want to take it in because the fabric's kind of delicate. i may add ribbon ties to the side eventually but until i can get around to the fabric store for some grosgain i'll just do something else. that will still leave me with several suspender clips. what do i do with suspender clips? (btw, for reasons of...female upper-torso shapliness... i am unable to wear them as suspenders myself.)

and the vest-front thing? what can i do with that? i was thinking maybe stitching the vest-fronts onto a pillow or purse or something. better ideas?

yeah they do, and it's perfect, because the waist is smaller then the bottom, so it flares out. Eggcellent!

<<what else can be done with neckties?>>

You could design/alter/make from scratch (depending on how many you have) tank top and or camisole with them. Use the ties for both fabric and straps. Or maybe use the suspenders for straps. Depending on how you'd like to wear it, perhaps a sexy, slightly revealing halter top? Very comfy for the summer. Granted, I wouldn't really know, not being a woman and all.;)

How about an overhead trimming for a doorway or window?

OH! Or maybe use them to make a superhero cape for Damien! Business Maaaan!! Away!! Or, considering how bright the ties are, 'The Corporate Crusader! Downsizing the tyranies of injustice towards the common man! In fine style.'

    <<the suspenders...what do i do with them?>>

Take one of them and stretch it across a doorway. Use the other for an adjacent doorway, and let Shakti slingshot herself back and forth across the apartment! Weee! :D

<<and the vest-front thing? what can i do with that? i was thinking maybe stitching the vest-fronts onto a pillow or purse or something. better ideas?>>

I like the pillow idea. Maybe you could sew it together with fabric from clothes you don't wear anymore. And if they smell like you, it would be a comfort for your kids to use it when you're out running errands or something.

Maybe make a smaller vest for Damien? OH! or a patchwork blanket for one of Shakti's dolls!

*getting superheadexplodey from all the ideas*

Rob, I likes the way you think. :) You gots you some good ideas!

I personally love the idea of making Shakti and her doll matching stuff out of the ties. How about some ultra funky sarongs?

Or some wee little skirts. I also like the idea of a funky tote out of the ties.

You are so sweet to think of that. :&

But this is the real reason why I loves ya! You are so damn funny! *LOL*! I could just see her doing that!

    Brandos Extasexy Pants
    • Materials Needed: highlighters, blacklight, 2 rolls of E(optional hit of acid), mood music, , 1 pair of favorite "light-colored" jeans, barefeet <-very important
    • Directions: draw a whole bunch of polka-dots all over the pants. next, add some crazy designs/googlish creatures; whatever floats your boat. then you pop, drop, and chillax.
almost forgot the most important part. it goes pretty much without saying but, sex partner comes in handy.

I've seen great stuff like cutains and pillows and cair covers made from ties.
You could cut the suspenders down and make back clips for the dresses to take in the extra material or curtain tie backs

Kitty, go check out snowdancer's gallery. He's got a kickin' tie skirt in it. It's groovy! Don't know how many ties it took to make it though..

I saw a lady the other day that did the usual hippie skirt thing but for the inverted V area at the bottom she put in ties. Is that what you are doing, kitty fabulous?

I probably should have added this to the other message but what's a little bandwidth amoungst heads?

I was shopping in a store the other day that sells a lot of retro cloths some halloween, fetish, & they also have an area that either are consignment or they have made their own things out of recycled cloths. One of the things they had was a bottom made out of elastic strips. I hesitate to call it a panty or a girdle, they weren't sewn together. It was quite intriguing. I would think that if you sewed them together it would be more wearable. As I'm typing this it also popped into my addled brain that sewing suspenders together for a skirt could make quite a sexy skirt.

Those things with the clips that you use to snug in a big shirt or other loose dress are called fashion clips @ my local JoAnne Fabrics store. That may not be the true name but it is something to call them. I personally call mine clippie things.
