I think that the NFL has gone way to far with this man's death. Just because he played football, entered the military, and died, doesn't mean every football player needs to wear his number on their helmet. Millions of people die fighting for this country, but they get no reconition. And if you sign up for the military what did he think was going to happen, that he was going to have a party. If you don't want to have a better chance of dying, don't join the military.

I know kids who join up only for the reason that they want to kill people and blow stuff up. If those kids die, should we celebrate them?

And what's with this idea that these people are defending me? Defending me from what? Terrorists? Not in Iraq. Who exactly are we fighting over there anyway? And why?

I've heard they've killed over 10,000 civilians. Doesn't sound too glorious to me.

I don't think it's glorious. But then don't join the military. They tell you up front what might happening. They don't trick you. Saddam needed to be dethroned. What about the people he was torturing, and killing.
Sometimes you have to spend lives in order to save them.

This justification is ridiculous, especially when you look at what's been going on in Sudan. We didn't lift a finger to stop a genocide.

I thinks it's sick that just because he was a pro-football player they are making a hype over it. What about all the rest of the men/women that died, maybe football players should start wearing photos of the rest of the soldiers that died

If you would do a little reading you would know that the people doing the killing in the sudan are islamic war lords. They are funded by people like Suddam. And if you don't think so, I've got ocean front property in PA to sell you.

You're one insensitive bastard. He played football and quit to serve our country. Today we have so many professional athletes who piss and moan because their 6 year 60 million dollar contract isn't paying them enough. This guy showed everyone that all that bullshit in the NFL doesn't compare to what's going on in the world. And yes, everyone who died serving our country has gotten recognition for their patriotic duty. Pat Tillman is getting national recognition because he chose to give up the NFL and the millions of dollars to do his part. And believe me the last thing he was thinking was that there was going to be a party for him.

Yeah, the man left millions of dollars to fight for our country. Now, no matter if you believe in the war in which he was fighting or not, you must admit that the principle remains : A man left millions of dollars to fight for what he thought was our safety. He sacrificed everything, even his own life. He was a football player, ofcourse the football players are going to celebrate his life and his decisions. Ofcourse the rest of the men and women who fight for us valiantly and with honor deserve recognition, but that is the purpose of Memorial day and Veterans day. If the NFL wants to emphasize something like this, they should be allowed to, and I believe that, frankly, they're in the right all the way.

You both live in pennsylvania... duel at dawn!
