I'm from Texas where there is a tax stamp law for drug dealers. From what I can tell the state government requires dealers to pay taxes on thier product and if caught without them they face harsher penalties. Am I the only one why thinks this makes no sense? They are taxing a business that isnt even legal. I just don't understand why tax stamps exsist can anyone help me?

I believe the Tax Stamp was used as the initial "its illegal" attack on the herb. While you see its legal with the stamp but as they don't sell them its still going to be illegal.

There was a story that some stamps had gotten out and one grower (or dealer) that got popped produced his stamps and got off (may have had his merchandise returned too).

    Damn memory loss! :D

Texas is a fucked up state, they also passed a law that if a thief is going to rob someone they must call 24 hrs ahead of time to tell the person

It exists, so that states can get more money out a person they bust. For instance, if a person is arrested for possession, then they make the person pay a fine for that, then another fine for the extra crime of tax evasion, for not having the stamp. It doesn't make it marijuana legal, it just adds penalties.
