It's about growing, but I see not many people frequent those boards as much as this one, and I need a quick answer. I just built a grow box inside my closet. It's wooden. I hid an extension cord in the closet and put a 50 watt bulb inside, suspended from the top of the box, about 3-4 inches from the plant. One of these I got. Now, since I'm going to leave this on during the night, I need to know if there is a danger of it catching fire. I know light bulbs usually grow very hot, but since it is a wooden box and all, I wanted to know.
I dont think it would catch on fire, I havent grown in awhile or anything but isnt 3 inches pretty close to it? Doesnt the heat effect it?
I read you need to have it about 2 inches close to it, in the growing forum. I'll try to keep it farther away though, it's a powerful bulb. I just need to find out how to stick it to the top of the box, because it just fell.
first of all thats not the right kind of light bulb, you would need either some Compact florescent lights or CFL's or some type of HID light whether it be HPS or MH (high pressure sodium or metal halide) this really depends on how big your box is. Most micro stealth grows use cfls because they are not hot and they produce alright ganja. Personally i would go with a 150w HPS if you have a smalled grow box and you want to produce good buds. next what about air intake and the exaust? what about smell? are you going to make a carbon filter to clean the stench of skunk www.icmag.com has a good growers forum, and they have alot of micro grow setups
Holy shit the plant withered. I wish I had read the above before. It is still green but very very thin.
Like, you can't even see it. I'm a moron. And one of the seeds I was growing just sprouted mold. It is not a good day
I think it can survive... it is greener now that I took it off the light bulb, and put it in a cool dark place with water. It just needs some time. That was stupid. Switched to a 15 watt fluorescent light bulb to heat the other seeds and that other sprout I have. So stupid..
You're using 50 watts of household bulb to grow a plant lol? I'm currently using two 200w lights per plant, these ones: and it's o.k. weed, nothing special but a nice smoke. A few days ago switched from blue spectrum to red spectrum for flowering second batch... I think off 50w to grow herbs you might get a couple of leaves and a puny little stalk at most hehe...
It wasn't fluorescent light but diachronic light or some shit, hot as hell and I didn't consider the possibility of it drying out my plant, which is what happened. It is only for two plants, so I don't need much.
That's why you need fans and room for adequate ventilation into your growspace, plants need fresh air, not burning two or three inches away from a household bulb... Spend a little money on buying a half decent bulb and making your little space better, ventilation, light reflection, temprature/humidity control, using decent soil (not just shit out of your back yard) etc etc and watch the results will be noticeably nicer... Like I said, I'm using 400w per plant and it's ok... 50w for two won't do shit... And it's not about heat... Indoors you want your plants at 22-27 degrees celcius in 'daytime' and 16-19 degrees C at night or so hence fans etc to cool down growspace..
It's what I am going to do in a while. Take into consideration that I live with my parents though, and any fan noises coming from inside my closet will raise suspicions. The bulb I'll try to get soon. Yesterday I bought the 50 watt one along with the extension chord and bulb socket. If I had known, I would have bought a one that is better suited for the plant. how much wattage do you reckon I need though? It is just for one plant or, maybe with luck, two. I'm quite sad though.. That plant that dried up sprouted pretty big in less than a week. None of my other seeds have sprouted, save two that I put in a pot, and those are going slow.
To be honest it's not really worth using anything under 200 watts IMO for a small indoor grow, even just one or two plants (and more wattage if possible!).. You can pick up envirolites like the one I pictured for about £30 UK ($60 US), there's loads of grow forums etc which will tell you the ins and outs but TBH I don't like to post on them... Here's fine but taking photos of what I've got in my cupboards isn't something I want to advertise on the net... Also you'll probably want to start off with five or six babies if you want two in the end... Some may turn out male, others may not be as healthy etc etc... If you only want two but grow 6 to start off with it gives you a better pick when it comes to selecting the ones you want to use and killing off the other ones... Buy a cheap computer fan for £10 ($20) and hang it in your space, it makes a lot of difference... I'm no expert but I cannot reccommend this book enough Medical growers bible by Jorge Cervantes... Everything you need to know explained simply for growing indoors or out, from a cupboard with a couple of plants to a commercial scale operation.... Buy it. Good luck!
you think I should cut the top part? It's been two days and the top leaves haven't dried out, but the middle part is fucked... I can either risk it and wait, or cut the top part and wait and see. There is about an inch of stem below of what got fucked, and it is looking pretty healthy, because it is partly what grew/was hidden after/during the burn.
