Do not attempt to synthesize diethyl ether. It's insanely volatile. Best I've heard you can buy car starter fluid (containing a good amount of Diethyl Ether (70%ish, says on can)) and spray it out in a big plastic bag, add water, let the bottom layer drain off into a GLASS cup. It might be the top layer. One of them is gas, the other is mostly ether, and maybe something else. People have had success with it, others have not. It's REALLY fucking flammable. Nothing producing heat should be anywhere NEAR it. Even cigs. Mmm. And for the love of god do it outside. It's easily ignited (the vapors as well) and it'll stick around if you're not outside so that's a massive fire hazard. I'm sure you know some of this, or all of it. I hope.
