Bought a sewing machine but...

The zig zag stitch doesn't seem to work! Every time I try to do it, it leaves huuuuge gaps and then does a few half-arsed zig zags. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? This is the sewing machine

 

I think there might be a problem with your needle or the fabric, the needle tends to junmp f the fabric is not fit for that machine or the wrong type of needle for that certain fabric.

 

I worked it out! It was simply the fact that I had the wrong setting on the stitch length bit!
