Hello everyone. I'm Lindsay, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a possibly dumb question that I was hoping some of you could help me out with. First, a little background- I'm 22, and I've been smoking regularly (meaning daily) for about a year now. I grew up in a very "pro-pot" household; my (wonderful and fairly successful) father's a huge stoner, as is my older sister.

So, here's the story- two weeks ago, I got very sick, with what I thought was strep throat. I had a super high fever, and actually went to the ER for a 105.0 temp. one night. After my fever subsided, a new problem popped up: my mouth/gums became infected. I had a ton of cankor sores, pus-filled white blotches all over my mouth, my gums were stinging, etc. I haven't been able to eat solid food in what feels like forever, lol. In the past few days, my mouth has gotten *somewhat* better. But there is still a small area on the roof of my mouth that's white and infected and really hurts when anything touches it. And my bottom gums are fucked up; I can't really explain it, but they've receded so that my teeth look super long, and they're puffy, and when I touch certain parts, they almost feel like they're going to come apart from my teeth.

Needless to say, I hadn't smoked since i first got a fever. It's actually been a nice break. But yesterday, I was home and so bored, so I smoked a bowl. I don't think it helped my mouth, but it sure made the rest of me feel better, lol. But I'm not sure whether it was a good idea. My mouth doesn't seem worse for it, but I feel like I probably should not smoke again today. Like I said, I feel like it's a dumb question, because common sense tells me smoking with slightly infected gums isn't a good idea, lol. But I'm jonesing, and I have the house to myself for a few hours...I need people to tell me it's not a good idea. If I have confirmation that's it's not a good idea, I'll feel better. Or, of course, you all could tell me it's fine and no big deal and I should smoke. lol.

    Comments?

Its a bad idea to smoke smoke :D

Sucks that that's happening, I hope it gets better soon. But ya a break is a good idea. Iv had to do that for strep. Its lame not being able to smoke but it will pass.

Well, I haven't had a fever for days. The thing is, I'm getting better. In a few days, my mouth should be pretty much fine. It's healing. I just think smoking would stunt the healing process a little. I don't think it'd make it worse, but I'm so close to being better, so I feel like i should let it heal for the next two or three days.

But on the other hand, I'm bored and want to smoke so I'm trying to find any way possible to justify it, lol. Like, "well, maybe if I smoke, and then immediately take my medicine (liquid amoxocillion), then do a listerine rinse, it should be fine." right? lol...I know.

Just chill, take it down a notch.. Maybe even switch to pot cookies or various other edible marijuana products :)

a vaporizer could help. i know that when i´m sick with a sore throat or a cough, that vaporizing doesnt irritate them.

but with the issue being your mouth and throat, i doubt anything like that is gonna be any better.

looks like eating weed is your best bet. but hopefully, by the time you read this, you´ll be all better and can smoke away!

I agree. If you want to get high, you should make something edible with it. The smoke might irritate the infection in your mouth, so you probably shouldn't smoke until that clears up.

Smoking with open soars in your mouth is a bad idea, but intaking thc while sick isn't. If you can eat a brownie or firecracker go for it.

Go see a dentist. It could be really bad, and just because it is healing doesn't mean it can't come back. Gums receding is a huge problem, my grandfather has that problem and he has to go in and get a corsage (i think that what it's called), were they lift your gums and clean underneath them, painful shit. Call them first thing Monday and tell them it is an emergency so they can see your mouth while it is still fucked up.
Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense im pretty baked now :)

the vaporizer i think is the best idea so far on this thread. i think that you also said that you havent been able to eat solid foods so putting marijuana into something edible probably wouldnt be to much better then just smoking. maybe if you go to the dentist(if you havnt already or just seen the doctor in the er) they should be able to prescribe you some kind of antibacterial mouthwash im guessing anyways. ive had sores on my gums or something sometimes but i thing its usually from just buring it or eating cereal while its still really crunchy. if your gums are receding to show more of your teeth then something must be really wrong but a dentist should be able to diagnose it.

Thanks for all the comments! It was just hard getting through yesterday, having the whole house to myself for hours, with nothing else to do. But I didn't smoke, and I won't have the chance to today. I think I'll give my mouth a few more days to heal. :)

I've found that the first day of not smoking is the hardest; after that it's easier.

first day's definitely hardest if your quitting to quit and have nothing to do all week. its different if your just too busy one day to smoke.
