Well if I use scripture as a basis, angels are created above man as a purely spiritual being. And that is why I think that they receive that title of "greater". Without the human weakness (which leads to death) that we possess, angels are better than us. however, taking into consideration the relationship that god desires to have with all people, i'd say that people are created higher than angels because of what god does for us. So in terms of Jesus. He was man, so spiritually lower than the angels in that he died, but in terms of the man's relation to God, he was higher.
Depending on how you read the genocidal flood, perhaps we can also say, to us. As well as all the other scripture that sees God killing men and women, children and babies. Regards DL
Well our human weakness leads to death, angels do not die. there you go. that was paraphrased a lot. ps- i edited my previous post to add a small section on Jesus and to clarify my "human weaknesses" statement
There's also the "adoptionist" position favored by the Ebionites: Jesus was God's adoted son, an event that took place when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and a voice from a cloud said: "This is my son, in whom I am well pleased." It's a shame, though, that so much blood was shed over what to me seems like such trivia. Christianity is about the life and example of Jesus, not what angels eat for breakfast (soulfood and angelfood cake, obviously), whether or not God has a body, etc. Here in the Bible Belt, the latter question is still a live issue, and it's true God did a lot of walking in the early years. The Israelites were told to be careful where they located their latrines so the Lord wouldn't step in doo doo if he passed through the camp on inspection.
Weak or strong, all biological entities die. I shoould tell you that i do not read the Bible literaly and do not believe that angels exist. To me angels is just a word that is to represent good ideas and notions. Demons, Satan, is just words to represent evil ideas and notions. Do you really believe in talking snakes and the other supernatural creatures of the Bible? If you do, can you indicate why God would pit a supernatural entity against Eve in the garden. Hardly a fair fight. Regards DL
No, I do not. Even if it is taken literally, I cannot see how Adam and Eve are at fault for sinning. If they did not know evil from good, then how did they know right from wrong. They didn't know that dosobeying God was bad so I don't see how he can punish them and al of us for it...
"Sin" would be a desire to better ourselves. St. Augustine's idea of "sin" which was taken up by a number of churches to this day (to varying degrees) is gravely insane...
Yes, and it is hard to fathom how minor sinners like you and I can only sin for 120 yrs and then have to suffer in hell for 1200000000000000000000+ yrs. This is why Hell does not exist. Regards DL
