1. Using the growing technique with jars sterilized by pressure cooker then injected with spores, how long does a grow take from injection to cultivation? 2. How does one make their own spore syrenge out of grown mushrooms? 3. What is/are common mistakes made by those attempting grows? Thank you all very much
1. 3 weeks at 80-84 degrees. Then you try them up. About 2-3 more weeks until you pick them. 2. Too hard to explain. Besides, I wouldn't give away that info. 3. Moisture level being off, is the most common. There's a million things that can go wrong.
1. What are you using in your jars? WBS, Verm/Brown Rice Flour, Rye, etc? Also, how big are your jars? You'll be waiting 2-5 weeks. Factors such as moisture content can also influence how long jar colonization takes. 2. You need to make spore prints. First get an empty, sterilized jar. Punch a small hole in the jar lid and place electrical tape over the lid. Place a newly opened and picked mushroom cap in the bottom of the jar, with the gills facing downward. Place the lid on the jar and wait a day. Open the jar, remove the cap, and fill with clean (distilled) water. Replace cap, shake until the spores are distributed in the water. With a PC'd syringe, suck up the spore water. You can make many syringes with this one jar. You should do all that in a clean environment. Preferably a still air glove box, which is very easy to make. Let me know if you want some basic instructions on the glovebox. 3. Oh my, many many many things could go wrong. Just know what you are doing! Read read and read some more. If you aren't sure you are doing something right, try to find the answer before you do it. Good luck!
I found a decent video guide here, a bit repetative in places but it is over an hour long. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=3286686859329905674&q=growing+mushrooms
Thank you! I understood how to make spore prints but I did not know that it was that simple to create a spore syringe. I have no doubt that my first few grows I will make many mistakes but hopefully I can learn from them. Peace & love!
