Help! My culture jars are almost completely colonized, but there are already little mushrooms (with little caps) growing inside them. What did I do wrong?
I'm no expert but I am guessing you either 1) Didn't have them in complete darkness or 2) A significant drop in temperature may cause fruit bodies to start forming.
Yes, You are correct. For some reason the mycelium has shifted into the next process. Fruiting, ethier they have been exposed to light exposure or a decrease in temperature. If I were you i would just wait until thoee pin heads have grown and wait until the next flush. As the mycelium is in a limited space you will not be able to acquire the whole amount. Ethier pick the small amount that you will get, or note it down to experience and bin them.
Hey, The same thing happened to a friend of mine. All turned out fine. You must put them in the fruiting chamber NOW! you could do a dunk and roll or just pile some vermiculite on top of the cakes and wet it down. Keep it wet as it drys out. Wait a week or sooner and you will have a first flush. Alturnatively, you could heat up a drill bit. Drill half way thru, then stick a straw into the hole. Make your own adjustments to size. You want the straw to fit tightly. Then fill the straw with spring water. And keep it filled. Don't stress. These things happen you can save everything. This process is much easier than people let on. Just make your envirement is sterile and clean and you won't have any problems. But, you gotta get water to the cakes. 90% humitity and 80 degree temps. Hang in there and don't stress. JB
