what are some good kiwi flicks? Whalerider made all the headlines with that young girl getting the oscar nomination, but was it any good?
Whalerider was sooooooooooo good, I LOVE that movie, you HAVE to see it!! Another kiwi classic is 'Goodbye, Pork Pie' man that is HILARIOUS.

Heavenly creatures was a great movie-directed by none-other-than Peter Jackson. A true story about two girls who murder one of their mums in New Zealand. Really makes you think...recommend it. Shit I've really got to see Whale Rider, the only person I ever watch movies with is my bf who would most likely chuck it in the 'chick flick' category.

I just watched Whale Rider... I swear I cried and not even at the soppy bits. Like.. there's a scene where they're sitting at the kitchen table and I started crying cos they had the same salt as we do at home... I love that movie.
yeah, me too. It's so well filmed, well acted - espcailly considering the lack of formal traing, and it's a good story. Once Were Warriors is another must-see, although I find it very hard to watch (it made me cry and cry, i can't handle violence and hatred very well) It's sequel, what becomes of the broken hearted is a crock of shit - it goes way to soap and loses all the gritty realism and desperation of the first one. Heavenly creatures is a great one, as are the other pj films - they are complely nutty and gorey and funny (yes, they are violent but it's not the real, heartbreaking violence of OWW) The pIano - it's beautiful, quite good too. Rain is another good NZ movie, as is Goodbye Pork Pie.
