There was a massive 36-car pileup near where I live yesterday. It made national news. Multiple Car Accident on I-390 Southbound 2/10/08 Last Update: 10:00 pm One Person Confirmed Dead, White-out conditions caused drivers to stop vehicle. (Gates, N.Y.) -- Multiple emergency crews were at the scene of a 36-car accident Sunday afternoon on I-390 Southbound. The accident occurred at the Scottsville Road exit on 390 South (Exit 17), near the runway of the Greater Rochester International Airport. The southbound lane on I-390 re-opened around 5:45pm Sunday evening. The exit ramp to Scottsville Road remains closed. One person, a 17-year-old female passenger, is confirmed dead. The person was identified as Le Ngo, from Rochester. Ngo died at Strong Memorial Hospital. Another passenger, Lyubov Klepanchuk, 18, suffered internal injuries. She is listed in guarded condition at Strong. There were reports of multiple injuries at the scene. State Police said some of the injuries were critical, and several of those injured were taken to local hospitals. Strong Memorial Hospital confirmed nine patients from the accident were brought into the hospital, which included Ngo and Klepanchuk. Three people were treated, and later released. Two others were in satisfactory condition, and two were under ER evaluation. Three people were taken to Highland Hospital. Two were treated and released, while the third person remains under ER evaluation. Twelve people were taken to Unity Hospital (formerly Park Ridge Hospital), and all were treated and released. State Police shut down traffic going southbound and diverted traffic off 390 at the Brooks Avenue exit. Four fire crews and 23 ambulance crews were at the scene of the crash, with more than 60 rescue workers total involved. The NYS Department of Transportation assisted in the cleanup, and will continue to check out any conditions. Those who were not injured in the crash waited inside buses (usually used for the RIT hockey team) to keep out of the cold. Police say that whiteout conditions in the area was the cause of the accident. High winds blowing across the area created the conditions, with blowing and drifting snow. State Police said there would be no arrests or citations issued for the accident. VIDEO: 1) http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ebd_1202701774 2) http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=297_1202705725
shiiiiiiiiiiiit. that only one person was confirmed dead is pretty amazing... 36 cars, id expect worse than that
crappy video, no blood gore or guts to be seen,, hell not even any really mangled vehicles.. very disappointing....
another reason I'm glad I don't drive. And there was a 50+ car pile up somewhere in Ontario last month...No deaths.
is there any video of it happening? i'm a bloodthirsty bitch, i can't help. i dont' want to see the aftermath. though i have to say, matt, rochester looks very very pretty.
Almost two weeks ago there was a 40 car pile-up right outside of Amarillo. The only fatality was a history professor from the community college 12 miles from here (about an hour from where the wreck was). I am so sick of fucking morons being given licenses. Daniel was in a pile-up a few years back and since he was the last car in line, he got pinned at fault, even though the fucking idiot in the front of the line stopped in the middle of the damn interstate. YOU DON'T DO THAT!!!!
we almost hit a couch in the middle of the freeway coming back form a renn faire in san diego or some shit like that.
They took nine to Strong Memorial and only one died? That's a miracle in and of itself. I can say that, I was born there and have had several broken bones set there.
