i found it a good film, but i was kind of dissapointed after seing it. everyone in my grade who had seen it was goign on and on about how scarry it is, but once i started watching it i was laughing half the time. its a good film though, the makeup is cool too on the posessed girl
The book scared me. I admit it. The movie didn't, however. My mother wouldn't even allow a copy of the Exorcist in her house because it had terrified her so much as a teen. There was so much build up, then, I read the book, then, I watched the film. I set myself up for disappointment. However, I don't remember laughing much...
I still really hate the fact that Mike Oldfield never sued the pants off of William Friedkin for stealing the intro to 'Tubular Bells'. That's one of my favorite albums, and The Exorcist ruined it for me.
as a child this movie terrified me. i couldn't sleep for several weeks I truely believed all the demons from hell were gonna get me. as i grew older the movie didn't scare me as much and i really begun to appreciate the storyline. This is an excellent movie one of my favorites. I'm a very superstitious person thus will not allow a copy of the movie in my home.
it wasnt well done??? you do know that this was made in the early 70s, right?? and it was groundbreaking for the time?? of course you can sit here now in the new millenium saying that its cheesy and laughable, but for the time, it was quite groundbreaking..... the subject matter is very dark, and I can see how creepy and scary it was for people of the 70s.
for me, though, I still find it quite disturbing that they had an underage girl doing lude acts with a crucifix, even if it was all acting......... still, it never has been done before, nor has it had been done since..... still quite sacriligious if you think about it.
I saw it when I was 12... Man, I didn't sleep for many weeks! And I kept getting these pictures in my head where my little brother (in the room oposite of me) got possesed by demons and comes crawling in to my room like that crab-crawl scene. I am now 16 and I have never seen a horror movie since. Once I zappet passet a channel playing the exsorsist and I saw her face and I got totally paranoid and was constantly afraid for about a month.. That movie REALLY did something to me... Even though I try not to, I get really pissed when hearing that people find the movie hallarious... I know it's not their fault, bit still...
It is their fault though, it's their own lack of imagination, patience, and general understand of the film and the story behind it. I don't go laughing at Frankenstein or Nosferatu or any film made before my time, so why should they? "Immaturity", "infantilism", none of these are really fair accusations for these people, it's just a lack of imagination and appreciation really. Which is fair enough if you don't like the medium of film very much. But why write in a film topic if you don't?
You're absolutely correct in your analysis From our perspective the movie might appear outdated and a bit cheesy, but when the movie was first released there were reports of women fainting in the audience, and some even running out of the movie theatre screaming Hotwater
When i first seen it at the age of 12 this movie terrified me. Doesn't have that effect now, but it is still a classic.
Most of you younger folk are not going to find it that scary. You've been brought up with movies like this your whole life. But, back in the 70's, nothing like this movie had ever been done before. This is back in the day when thay still bleeped out words like hell and damn on TV, okay? I saw this movie at the drive-in. Tell ya what, when that girl's head turned all the way around, you could literally hear popcorn falling out of people's mouths. x
I just recently got The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen.. I love it.. This has always been a favorite of mine.
The first time I seen this movie was whenever I was like 4 or 5 and really didnt think it had some funny stuff in it until I got older. It used to scare the hell out of me especially whenever she walked backwards down the freakin' stairs...like if I seen that sh!t coming at me...I think I would crap my pants and die. Good movie though...good movie....
As long as it's the original version -- without the spider-walk, etc. -- I still think this is a lot scarier than anything recent. The bit where Linda Blair's face morphs into that weird-ass mask for just a frame or two still creeps me the hell out. Plus, unlike most horror movies of the last 30 years, it's actually about something that matters in real life: whether people who've lost their faith in themselves can still act heroically if the chance comes. And the Exorcist was much more about subtle terror than visual fright. I forgot "Hostel" & "Saw" 20 minutes after they ended. I still can't get the Exorcist out of my head.
i really want to watch that version of exorcist.. I am looking for a copy of that one.. but sadly, I haven't found any..
it's friggin funny but at the same time it gave me chills down my spine whenever she turned her head 360 degrees and crab walked down the stairs, classic!
