i can see an agnostics point of view, but telling others that religion is pointless is not true. yes they may have bad qualities, but if you can believe that someone is up there guiding you than i think you may live a lot happier life. and no i'm not saying that athiests are unhappy people, but the people that do worship god probably are happy just knowing someones there.
Personally i do belive in a God. But not for the same reason, i mean think about it, in the whole entire universe there had to be at least one place where the tempurture is right and we can get food and all tht. and even on earth there are some places where you can't farm. But, anyway, In think the fact tht the earth is here in the first place is edverdence enough, and I don't mean just the Earth, i mean everything, the Entire Universe, how the hell did it get here? the big bang? how did that get here? Just because we cant prove anything doestn mean we should be having a good, healty disscussion, as long as there are no pesonal attacks, or hateful things.
Im not saying we're gonna change minds, but its good to have a healty disscussion about something like this. You dont need to change minds but its good to express your views and beleifs to other people.
It's not sharing belief's is it.. what it is, taking someone else's views and countering it with your own. Senseless. Discussion like this goes nowhere.. By all means do what you want, this is a free speech forum and all. But ya know.... these things just escalate into two-sided arguments most of the time.
its one thing to have opinions and beliefs.... but i do agree its a stupid thing to argue about. even more rediculous when people go to war over it... its hard to change someone's mind on this type of thing. we all believe what we want whether its a belief in the southern baptist church or staunch atheism or whatever else, and thats that. arguing about it, trying to change minds is silly. and without merit.
I didnt even have to open this thread to know all it was are people going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, etc etc etc. r-e-t-a-r-d-e-d
that's a good point.. but I try and be honest with myself and this world.. lying to myself (possibly.. or maybe not?) just because it feels better isn't healthy.
I'm newly partially-religious. Let me explain: I didn't believe in god, I believed the more scientific bang, plants, you're born and you die and that's it. Recently I've seen a movie called "what the bleep? down the rabbits hole" or something to that extent and it changed my outlook to that there must be some greater power. and I'm currently reading a book called "no death, no fear" by thich nhat hanh. he's a buddhist-monk-poet-teacher and it's simply an amazing book. only fourty pages into it it's changed my whole thoughts on religion. it explains how nothing is permanent, how there is no life and no death, but rather changes in form.. like a cloud. if you become attached to a cloud and you're sad when it goes away you're too attatched to its physical form. you cant see that the cloud has become rain or a river or mist or snow. It's still there. so I've become very interested in buddhism not so much as a religion but moreso as kind of guidelines of life. it's pretty interesting, you should check it out. the quotation from my sig is from the book.
sounds interesting. I'm really interested and open to that stuff.. I just don't claim it's the truth..
I'm trying to define that line between the truth and what I'd like to be the truth.. I hate how for so many people fear drives them to religion, like the quote which is sometimes but not always true: "there are no atheists in foxholes" which, if you don't get it means basically when atheists are on their dying breath they suddenly love god because they're afraid of annihiliation
being religious or atheist is the same thing to me.. to beleive or not believe without questioning anything is bullshit. who are we to claim that anything is the truth, you know?
Man-made science disproves disproving god itself completely. Simply put... Something (the big bang) cannot come from nothing (what created the big bang?). You just have to look down the line long enough. And the fact that people cannot believe one and not the other is ridiculous. I'll quote something I heard before in a similar discussion. Science explains how. Religion explains why. (not that I'm religious) But people are just so close-minded and do not look at the big..ahem..BIGGEST... picture.
Because their not asking the right questions. Your telling me reality (in general)... just.... happend? From nowhere? From nobody? No source but an apparent 'bang'? Come the fuck on...
