I'm going to the Dam to celebrate my birthday on 4/20 (what a day to be born on, eh?) - I'm turning 19, so I'm well in age, but I hear that they're very strict on ID in coffeeshops.
I was wondering what kind of ID is accepted.

I've tried getting a PASS ID card, but frankly my tutor and college is useless and always forgets to call back to verify my age - I've tried 3 times, each time a fail.

I don't drive, so a licence is out of the question.
I don't fancy taking my passport about with me, either.

What I have got is a student union card and student ID card with photo and hologram, is this acceptable?

For most people, a passport is required ID to have on your person at all times in the Netherlands. A passport will always work in a coffeeshop. Just be careful with it.

80+ % of coffeeshops will accept a gov't issued photo id like a drivers license.

NOTE: if you go in with a group of kids who look young, most shops will refuse to serve anybody in the group unless all members of the group show id.
