I'm thinking of growing some cubes. I only ever taken native Liberty caps before and the taste makes me want to throw up.
Are Cubes any tastier? Can I cook them up with some herbs and garlic without losing potency? thanks

I don't find the taste is too bad at all. They kind of taste like... peanut shells?

I suggest eating them with just water. If you REALLY can't stand the taste though, put some on a pizza, or into a peanut butter sandwich.

I've cooked with them and not lost potency. If you grind them in a coffee grinder, you can add them to anything you bake.

I don’t think any psychedelic mushroom is going to be "tasty".

I like chocolates or tea, or you can add 1/8 or 1/4 to a jar of honey, wait 3-4 weeks and then eat just the honey. The psilocybin absorbs into the honey, kinda like tea...

I personally find cubes to be very very tasty. If there was no psychedelic effect of the mushroom, I'ld probably snack on them like crackers. Some of friends will eat them and won't complain but don't necessarily like them. While others cnnot stand the taste/texture and have to eat them in crunchy PB sandwich.

I think they taste pretty awful fresh. Dry isn't so bad, but not great, either. I don't need any kind of food to get them down either way, though, just a little water.

If it really is that bad to you, I've had the idea of makinf THC/psilocybin fudge. Just use cannabutter to make your fudge, then while it cools, stir in some powdered mushrooms. Whatever you decide, don't heat the mushrooms. Heat breaks down psilocybin.

I hate the taste. I almost threw up the other night trying to choke some down on some pizza because we had no bread for peanut butter and mushroom sandwiches.

i think they're ickyness usually is because they are often known to grow on poop. by the way, they're way more potent if you take them on an empty stomach with an MAOi.

I didn't have a whole jar of honey, or a month at my disposal. If I did, I would have bought bread. It was kind of a spur of the moment thing. Also, I'm a diabetic, and lots of honey = bad for me. I prefer peanut butter sandwiches or tea.

well, if you leave them in there too long the solid matter of the fungi will dissolve as well. all you have to do is leave them in there long enough for the honey to turn blue thoroughly. i orefer taking them, on an empty stomach with an MAOi because they hit you faster and harder that way. but that's just me

They don't taste nasty because they grow on poo lol...i dont grow mine with poo and they taste just as gross. i dont know if it is the taste so much as the fact that they start off dry as hell and get all mushy and gross while you chew them (unless you eat them fresh which i never think to do before drying). mushy shrooms stuck to teeth and gums makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. i like breaking them up and putting them on PB sandwiches.

Sorry if this is hard to read, little baked but i tried

I hear ya. The only mushrooms that grow on "poo" are outdoors, usually in cow fields. Homegrown are grown in rice flour and what not...

Every one I've ever eaten has been nasty as hell! I don't know how some like the taste, but what ever. I think most would agree its about the effects[IMG]

For me the dried ones dont have a very strong taste. This is coming from someone who pukes when I try to ingest tomatoes, beats, onions, and most other healthy vegetables :p.

However I do love celery that is my vegetable that keeps me healthy.. mmmmm.

If I had a choice to eat one bite of beats or an ounce of cubes it would be a pretty easy choice for me at least.

Do high temperatures, such as boiling water, truly degrade psilocybin/psilocin? If so, at what temperature does degradation occur?

Psilocybin and psilocin are sensitive to oxidation, with psilocin being particularly sensitive. This process is accelerated at higher temperatures. There is no specific temperature at which this breakdown occurs, however, the longer you expose the psiloc(yb)in to a raised temperature (in the presence of oxygen or an oxidizer), the more will be degraded.

To my knowledge, there has been no study or report of anyone quantifying the amount of degradation at various temperatures. Qualitative reports however seem to indicate that less than an hour of boiling or steeping seems to have little to no effect on the potency of psiloc(yb)in water solution.

actually, a lot of mushroom growing guides highly recommend using sterilised and decomposed manure for fruiting because it gives you even more flushes. plus according to the book mushrooms demystified by david aurora, specimens that grow in mediums with higher concentrations of nitrogen tend to have an extra boost of psilocybin in them. my buddy bought a shroom kit from a headshop and his kit came with 5 pounds of "kowanite" composted cow poop.
actually, out in the wild fields where horses graze tend to be better spots to search at than spots where cows graze. because more often than not horses are grain fed and commercial cattle operations just let them graze on grass to save money. so unless it's dairy cows, i'd just stick to the horse fields. though i've heard USDA approved livestock feed has spore inhibitors in it these days.
