New to mushroom cultivation

The following is for interest and not actuallity.

I want to start cultivating mushrooms. I use them frequently, and think it would be a good experience and (not to mention) convinient when I want them.

I checked out a couple grow guide on shroomery.org and found this one:

Looked tedius, but pretty legit.

I have about 100 dollars in my wallet right now, and thats what they said its all I need. But I looked at one of the materials needed and wonder where I could find it, besides off of the internet: A Spore Syringe. What is it? Where could I find one?

Also, if you have anything else to say about growing, I'd be real thankful.

ALSO, what is the best way to for a beginner to start cultivating?
Grow kits are expensive, but if there are any other way I that are good for beginners please let me know.

 

A spore syringe or spore print is the thing that is required to grow the mushrooms. It's what the mushrooms come from. You would usually have to buy this off of a website, but I have found a way to obtain some without doing so.

What You Need:
1. Magic Mushrooms of Your Choice (must include at least 1 cap)
2. Lense cleaning paper (found at most drug stores)
3. Clean drinking glass

What To Do:

You will need to have a fairly fresh and moist cap to get a decent ammount spores out of the mushroom. You will need to sterilize a surface, then cut out a sqaure of lense cleaning paper about the size of the mushroom cap. Then, gently press the moist mushroom cap onto the lense cleaning paper and place the cleaned drinking glass over top of it. After about 24 hours, you should have a nice spore print. Try not to contaminate it, and seal it in a ziplock baggie. To make it last longer, it can be put in the fridge/freezer.

Now, instead of using the syringe to add the spores to the jar, use a box cutter or something similar. Make sure you sterilize the cutter by washing it, then flamming the blade with a lighter until it is red hot. When it cools down a bit (while keeping it from touching anything), quickly scrape a visable ammount of spores onto the blade. Then, open the jar and quickly add the spores (try not to have the jar open for more than just a couple seconds). Then, follow your grow guide as normal.

Sorry, HauntedGraffity, but it's unlikely that you will be able to get away with not getting a syringe from the Internet.

Unless you are able to obtain a pretty fresh cap and make a print from it like the previous poster said...

Spores are like very small seeds. Fungi grow from spores. Shrooms are fungi.

A spore syringe is a syringe filled with spores that are mixed with water.

 

if i were you i would go bigger for your first time..

having just completely my first grow (PFTek) i realized i should have just skipped over using cakes and moved straight onto bulk substrate/casing/etc.

also, with 100 dollars you can afford to make a terrarium far superior to the poor man's terrarium on that guide you have linked.

just keep doing some research on shroomery (best site ever)

Don't buy a terrarium. buy a $5 bin from walmart. Poke a few holes and cover them with breathable material. Then use individual trays inside the bin.

The site you referenced overcomplicates things IMO, but I've been growing for a little bit. Check out fungifun.org for easier yet totally good teks. Also stay away from grow kits, they are way over priced, trust me I bought one and then found out I could buy all the stuff it came with for half the price. I would also skip the pf tek and go straight to grains, just as easy but better results, although you do need a pressure cooker with grains.

 

I dont get how you people get by without pressure cookers...
