... people think that if you if you live with little you are a boring, backward, amish person. actually: when you have a "good" living (=not a simple living or living on little) you have become a softie, a mommies boy, you need this type of food, sodas, ....you have become a confort zombie, a spoiled big baby it is cool to live on less, it is hard core. it is harder and makes you a more alert person. it is the way we were meant to be: more alive.
You're right... but what's the point here? It's true enough that with all our modern "conveniences" designed to save time we actually have less free time than ever. However, I don't think it's a mystery that living with less is better, or why. It just comes down to the fact that we've been "babied", as you say, for so long the necessary skills/desire to obtain them are gone from our being. I'm one of the few people in my group of friends that possess any primitive skills at all. Also one of the few people I know without a TV. Such is the world.
the point is that we can all change.... i mean really change, not talk about the envirionment bla bla.... every step counts. you can start today.
I'm not sure I agree with the ideal that we can all change. I mean sure some of us possess the skills or the ability to learn them. But a large majority of people can't/don't want to. Think about back when primitive living was the only option, not everyone could hack it then, and not everyone can hack it now.
do you mean that there are too many unfit people out there? anyway, we are totally too many on this planet, sure, so a natural selection would be healthy.... the system is nurturing mediocrity.... but still.... i do think that there is a personal lesson to be learnt, for everbody. yeah most of us are totally out of touch with the natural way of survival. but today we live in this reality, this environmental mess. i truly believe that each one of us have to make an effort. but yeah, i know, for some people there might be no hope....
could you define "hardcore simple living" as you interpret it? because what you consider "hardcore" some may scoff at.. also it would give me a better idea as to how to respond to your post...
either you continue to live like a softie, or you decide not to do it. cant be that hard to understand?
well, what HHB is saying is that some people hear hardcore simple and think Tepee, nomadic, hunter gatherer life style. While others think small apartment, big city, taking the bus. Still people may conjure images of living on the street as a beggar. But for all this there is yet another group of people who believe living simply means only watching 3 hours of TV a day, finding more time for reading and yoga, and a once-per-week family dinner. What's YOUR perspective? Clearly you know it. But articulation is an exercise which will help others figure out where you're coming from, and where they should come from in response. "Softie" and "simple" are relative terms. When was the last time you chopped wood?
exactly "softy" and "simple" are relative terms.. we raise our own meat, grow our own vegetables,we have built a log cabin from scratch,we heat with wood,we have no well for water,no television, our gardens are organic etc. do i consider us "hardcore"? no,simply because we still have electricity,we still use power tools,we have automobiles etc.. i dare say there are some that would consider us living in the lap of luxury and "softies".. do i think just anyone in todays society could do what we do? no fucking way.. so ya see why i was asking for clarification.. truth be told, the way you live, the things you consider "hardcore", we may consider "soft"...
how do you know how i live? today i live with no fridge, no tv no computer. but i am a nomad, so in a couple of month i ll be somewhere else i have stayed alone in the jungle in asia, i have lived in a cave in india, with a friend.... so maybe you dont really know who i am i was talking in general, for people to start to take steps a a right direction, people who are leaving normal lives.... i am more hard core than you imagina, trust me.
for someone with no computer you sure seem to find ample time to belittle folks with generalizations and accusations.. quite frankly i think your a fulla shit hypocrite..
i think it's good to do what you can but every person has their limitations i can live in a crappy rental and use a 10-year-old computer and wear thrift store clothes and walk a mile to the store in below zero weather to buy rice and beans and veg but i cannot do much more [or less] i applaud everyone who is trying at all whether they are trying to fix the earth or just fix their head
wa bluska wica:exactly... thanks... there is no big answer, there are a million small ones.... i have live in extreme situations, (did have to sleep somtimes in railways stations in while snowing outside).other times i lived a flat, others i live in a hut.... you need to adapt, and learn.... and evolve and listen to what the earth wants us to do.
hm... i know many people that travel around with no homes and all they have to their name is a sack and sometimes a train ticket, they are the some of the most tripped out ppl i know, however it doesnt mean they dont like stability and they dont brag about being "hardcore". most of the time people make their own judgment based on first impressions but it can change. with that said my first impression of you is: when people say they're "hardcore" most of the time they are not they just want attention.
no sleep no food (and without any drugs ) travelling alone, living with nature... nature talks to me.... many s c cool hippies are just doin evreything with their mates, they wouldnt last a week alone in the wild....
