On a visit to my local garden shop I was introduced to the idea of useing T-5 flourescents instead of HID. I was told that the 8 bulb system was equivilant to a 1000W HID and I could carry my garden from clone to nugs with just the changeing of the bulbs. This would be a benefit by reduceing electrical useage and in lowering the temp in my growing area but I am somewhat skeptical.

Has anyone used the T-5s ? and if so can you please share your experience and opinion about them.

T5 Fluorescent fixtures provide light that is ideal for growing all kinds of plants indoors. These lightweight, high output fixtures come in three versions that take 4, 6 and 8 fluorescent tubes. Designed for low-heat and high-lumens these fixtures incorporate side mounted ballasts that allow better heat dissipation. Available now on all T5 fixtures is a never before option that allows for both horizontal and also vertical mounting for greater flexibility in system configuration.

All this is very nice but if I wanted a salesman to push products I can read an ad out of a magazine. I was wanting to hear from someone who has direct knowladge and has used them for growing cannabis.

I've got 4 of the blue light in the veg room, I 've noticed that the plants look very good, they they are very slow growing, I stuck a 26w cfl into the mix and the plants at that end have started to stretch a bit.

From this, I'd say mix the colors:>)

I was kinda wondering about that, I kept one of my seedlings under normal flourescents for a few weeks just to see what it would do, It didn't grow but maybe a centemeter. 2 days ago I put it in the veg room and it has already doubled just by putting it under the MH. I am curious to see how you like them throughout the rest of your grow.

    We try!

The rest of my grow? It's more like a constant thing, they rotate in and out as the flower room demands, Like I have one ready for harvest, so when that is complete another will take it's place.

So the veg room will have vacancy so I'll tranceplant a seedling into it's home for the duration and on and on, at least it's working that way so far.

Some of the plants in the vag room have been in there for 2-3 months and until I move them to end with the 26w CFL they seem to stay green and healthy!>)

T5 are designed 4 fish tank lighting and come in white and blue spectrum range mainly used in salt water marine. Have ya tried putting light a few inches away from ya plants? As they dont have much effective light range. Think this type of lighting is only really useful to topup the lack of blue that some hid dont have.
