Christians. Why do you respect a God that kills humans and does not denounce slavery?

Still, my point remains that it was thought of as an act, not an aspect of a person that was a large part of who they were. Like, I said, obviously people have been gay for as long as we've been humans, but the public had a different mindset about the whole thing.

because the term homosexuality and the whole idea that come with it was from a book written in the 19th century.

I think all of this is fascinating, but not exactly responsive to the issue. "Homosexuality" was given its name in Victorian England. The facts you mention illustrate what the authors of the Bible had in mind in the various passages that are taken to condemn "homosexuality": male prostitution, promiscuity, pederasty, etc. Does that include committed, loving relationships? Does it include homosexual "orientation"?

oh i do know there was homosexuality back then as do you

the idea of gay culture i cannot know

but i might hazard a guess that if a group of people behaved differently than others that a culture would have grown

people were wired no differently 2000 years ago [or 20000 or i think 200000 years ago] than we are today

yea, its been about 200,000 that we've been around in our modern form..Im not saying that people were different, Im saying that there was a different understanding and social attitude with regards to homosexuality. and the way we are wired has a lot to do with culture, not just biology.

Anyway, we are getting too hung up on this point. I just didnt like you insinuating that Jesus was somehow a bad person because there is no record of him being a crusader for gay rights.

I can't draw conclusions but that makes your rebuttals more true.
Nice that all of mine are inferior to yours. Who has the biggest head?

Give your head a shake some time.

Yes. Then as now many are wrong to discriminate and denigrate without cause.

well considering that most of the stories about Jesus were first passed down through word of mouth for centuries before being written, and then after being written, many many of the gospel accounts were ommitted from the bible...I think its safe to say we don't know everything that he did or everything specific thing he stood for. But we can sum it up in a word; love. Thats what was important. Why argue about the rest?

Sounds like Marlowe was a fool. i don't love boys nor do I denigrate or discriminate against those who do.

Are you and he discriminating against women here or did you just forget to include them?

because it is fun to argue?

and sometimes people learn things by hearing other viewpoints

    i am not gay

    marlowe was

he was also a great playwright, a blowhard [no pun intended], and like many highly creative persons, kinda fucked up

but it is a very funny line

since people seem to be drawing a line before which there can be no concept of 'homosexuality' as a social reality, should they not be drawing that same line when it comes to 'discrimination'?

    i am curious

[and the scattershot nature of this thread has left me confused]

I'm not trying to make it sound like I meant it as a bad thing. You can't take the bible literally. They are just stories in which PEOPLE used to try and explain Christianity. Jesus's disciples could have very well been corrupt and could have out and out lied in the bible.. or they could have been good people. But if you ask me, the bible is all one big reminder that only Jesus was pure and without sin. Sense man wrote the bible, it could very well be nothing as to what Jesus preached. We'll never know. But I am not trying to say it like its a bad thing or a good thing for that matter. It's just what I think.
