in many expert's opinion, May 77 was the best month in Grateful Dead touring history. Do you agree? If not, in which month do you think the Grateful Dead hit their peak, and what other peak months did they have? And what do you think was May 77 for Phish, Cheese, Panic, Moe., etc. Please, I really want to know. I've become somewhat of a collecter these past few months!
May 77 were some great shows, without a doubt some of the best. I don't know if I've just listened to that run too many times in the last 25 years, but I prefer some of their 73 shows (or 80/81 or 71) sometimes.
i believe the Cornell 77 show was in may....and that is my favorite show. such good quality playing. amazing jamming. great sound on the bootleg. so good. so, so good. the whole run around that time is great. donna jean is killing it during may too....i love her!
as far as the dead, i think these were all 'peak' periods.... spring 69 fall 72 - spring 73 summer 74 spring 77 spring 81 fall 89 - spring 90 imo, panics peak was spring>summer 96, the tour right after sit & ski was stellar...
hahaha, experts. Ya don't gotta be a connoisseur to know when there was a spark. And may 77 was some solid stuff.
