What do you all mean when you say "oh, the good days, back when i was starting to get high i would get nice highs like that, but now they arent as good"

alot of you experienced smokers say that. im not very experienced, so i would like to know what u mean. Does it mean your highs are not even interesting anymore? boring? or is it that u dont achieve a very strong high because of tolerance? or wat? please explain, this bugs me. thanks.

The first couple of times you get high, you've never gotten high before so the effects are all new and exciting, food tastes better, music tastes better, you laugh a lot etc. Once you smoke a lot, these effects lessen due to the tolerance to the substance. So, you'll need to eventually smoke more to recience the same effects you recieve at first.

Like the two said, tolerance. Basically, at one point you just get used to the high.

so by smoking only about twice a week, would that keep my tolerance low and therefore allow me to keep enjoying my highs as much as the first times?

Ever heard about "Chasing the Dragon"? Your highs will never be as good again as the first ones unless you quit for a long time :p

But yeah twice a week should be a pretty good time for you to keep it low

It's more than just a tolerance. THC has a reverse tolerance. I think it has at least as much to do with becoming used to the effects--a psychological tolerance. I've noticed this phenomenon in myself, and while it is a little sad, there's also a positive side: You don't have to look like the retarded one every time you get together with some friends to smoke.

the problem most people have is they don't do it in moderation, and they have to smoke ridiculous amounts in a vain attempt to reclaim the feelings of their first high. if you don't smoke too much, smoking will still be fun.

Exactly man. But it's not like all the effects lesson with prolonged use. I still enjoy the high just as much as I did before (if not more), even after daily use for 3 years. Now I find I can enjoy the subtler effects from the high more, and it's better because I never have any fear of getting "too high", and like freaking out.

Also, I still sometimes get as high as I did before, it's just that I burn out quicker and the high doesn't last as long. But I am left with a feeling of well-being for the rest of the day, even after the effects are long gone.

like good music, once you lose the original pull you begin to listen to the subtle undertones and really start to appriciate it and develope a deeper understanding

Well I don't even think my first few times getting high were that much better than now,
I mean they were different, but now I get better weed,
and also I have more time to actually think and get really into things instead of being like
"DUDE LOOK, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT" at every single thing and being really stupid when I smoke.

But I've been smoking for like a little over a year, I know people who have been smoking for way longer and after a few years I think that's when it starts getting not as good. But I dunno.

you can rotate your good bud with more mediocre bud. Smoke the good stuff when you can enjoy it, and the mediocre during the week/ majority of the month.
and quiting periodically is good too. I find that a week is long enough to make mine better, but the relaxation/ pain relieving qualities of pot don't change much (for me) over time.
