updating linux's Kopete... help please?

I've been up all night trying to get the yahoo on Kopete working on my Linux Mandrake 10.0 box(yahoo and their third-party vendettas). I've just about lost all coherency. Not that I normally have trouble installing stuff, just this time it's about updating and all the documentation I've read so far has led nowhere. I someone could post instr. on how to install the package after it has been untarred, please do,
So far I have Kopete version 8.4 and a nice case of sleep dep.

Still no solution. From what I've read, this is common. The update for Kopete for some reason doesn't fully install.
-new solution- went with Gaim.
Works well.
Thanks anyway for what I assumed would have been posted had I given more time and not gone and buried myself in Linux for 20 hrs straight.
