i can already tell it's got bad effects on my hair... you see, it's been 4 weeks since i got dreads, and my scalp got REALLY dry today after washing it. maybe i put too much sea salt water in my hair.. i dunno... so i figured, what the hell, maybe i'll wash it with "normal" shampoo every 4 weeks. you know, the stuff most people use. badddddd idea... after i was done washing i could already see the difference. everything's more loose... it hasn't come apart but it's so much more loose. scare me crapless... don't give in to normal crap! it'll kill your dreads! or.. maybe not.. but it hurt mine pretty bad!
Check out the list of crazy ingredients your shampoo has. It will make fall in love with organic soaps. Can you imagine your skin trying to absorb the list of synthetic chemicals listed on most shampoo bottles? It's....terrifying.
as much as i love organic soaps, my dreads seem to hate them. they get limp and feel waxy. dr. bronners leaves my hair feeling greasy. i really love the dreadheadhq dread soap, but i refuse to pay 10 bucks a bottle. so i just use suave "naturals" ocean breeze. i know it's still got all kinds of stuff in it that's probably not so nice, but it works really well for my dreads, and they like it. so you know... gotta do what the dreads demand!
i ran outta bronners recently too, and been usin this coconut crap that has a heavy residue its been helpin my scalp alot, and makes my dreads really soft, but ive noticed theyve been fuzzier then normal..mine are quit mature so im not very worried they'll come apart, or anything, but i definately wont use this crap too often...but i think bronners was drying my skin too much and this stuffs really moisturizing so when i get bronners again i'll probly alternate alot
If I run out of my pure shampoo I just rinse my dreads in water. I would rather use nothing than normal shampoo. I'm super paranoid about all the crap they put in commercial shampoo.
shampoo is over rated anyway. I mean, unless you're out there rolling in the mud, or else you have some hardcore landscaping/construction type of job that makes your head extra dirty, there is usually nothing in your hair that a thorough heavy rinse or a very slightly soapy watery mix won't cure. And for the dry heads, there's always aloe........
yeah, i get that in theory... but my head just feels dirty after a week or so. the oil from my head doesn't go away just with rinsing with water. and the dreads pick up all kinds of smells... my friend's perfume, the food i'm cooking, someone i walk past who'se smoking, etc. etc. i prefer to soap my head and soap it good about once a week, week and a half. if i'm busy or just don't get itchy, i'll let it go two weeks. but yeah... soap is a good thing!
I use liquid bronners, always. If my scalp is dry or something and bugging me, I might hit it with an ACV and/or olive or coconut oil rinse. That does the trick.
i use bronner's but my head never feels clean afterwards. always feels gross and oily. it doesn't itch most of the time but this normal shampoo has kept my head feeling great *sigh* i wish bronner's cleaned my head better
i don't like the liquid bronner's but the bar does great things for me. the liquid either leaves my dreads feeling gummy and gooey (not diluting enough) or doesn't clean my hair (diluting too much). the bar does exactly what i want and smells better to me, too!
i hate shampoo. i have always had allergic reactions to shampoo until i start using shampoo bars, they last so much longer too
