you know, i've never even thought of buying beer online. i'm not sure if that would be legal, considering it would be too easy for someone underage to get without identification so i would have to say probably not very common, although i would not be surprised to hear about sites that do that (legally or not).
i knew you could order it online, just didnt know if you could get away with not being 21 if you pretend no ones home or something.
Why would it matter if you bought it from UPS? I'm sure you could find some places online that will do it illegally places that just have you check a box that says your 21, but anywhere legally online will have the delivery guy check your ID. The box will be tagged as one which requires ID. I don't know what shipping services do this, but I'd be surprised if UPS didn't.
I've had a friend buy Absinthe online and get it. He was 18 at the time. Maybe because it's coming from out of the country it doesn't need ID. Either way he's lucky. I'd buy it online if I knew I could get away with it.
some states allow alcohol to be sent via postal/delivery services... some states do not. i live in a state which allows it, and have ordered a particular armagnac online twice from a big name vendor. the pacaka was VERY clearly labelled "this package contains alcohol - ID required for delivery. yet each time they were delivered nobody was home to answer the door, and it was left, with delivery information, at the doorstep, no ID required. both times i had it delivered to my parents house. once when i was living there, but of age, once when living in an apartment, though of age. had i been a minor i'd have gotten home from school before my folks would have gotten home from work, and would have gotten booze easily without ever having to show my face and get carded. i'm currently in my third apartment since having moved out of my parents house, with a period of a few months at one point in which i moved back in.... never have i had package left at my doorstep in an apartment. if anything, they leave it in the rental office. if it is labelled like mine was, the rental office wont likely accept it, and you'll have to just be there to accept it yourself when the delivery gets there. if you live in a house in the suburbs or the country, theres a chance you can do it without needing to show ID, but i DO NOT encourage anyone underage to do so. you can get yourself into a LOT of trouble very easily. and unless you're a beer coinnesseur looking to get a bottle or two of some hard to find, coveted brew, then thats cool, but shipping on liquids in glass bottles is pretty expensive. if you get booze online....a case of beer will cost a LOT more due to shipping i strongly recommend that you not try to unless you can legally accept it and provide valid ID. it would be much, much easier, and much safer to have an older friend get it for you.
i was just curious. it just seemed weird that you could place an order online from a distributor and get it sent, and i was wondering how they would know you are of age. thanks.
Something I used to do is order a takeaway and ask the guy to pick up some booze and smokes on the way here. They always did it, but I live in the UK so its proberbly different, if you lived here you'd be old enough anyway, lol.
a lot of minors do it and get away with it. its not out of the question. but i would never recommend someone try it. it IS kinda strange and fishy. a lot of kids get away with it, and thats one of the reasons a number of states will not allow a person to have alcohol shipped to them purchased by mail
My friend and I talked about doing an order like this a while back...not that it matters now since I'm 21, but he never made the order anyway, so I don't know if it's possible or not.
