Ok, so I was washing my hair today, and I was squeezing the ends like always and I noticed something bad.. What looks like clumps of lint (my towels are blue/green)... or mold?! So far I've found it in three of my dreads, and it's just at the end of them. So I combed out the end, and picked it out. It appears to just be lint, so I've calmed down slightly. However, now I'm panicking that it could be in all my dreads. And it could be up near the roots. Not good. It's definitely knotted up inside really well, because I couldn't just pick it out, I had to comb the end out, and even then it didn't want to come out. In the morning I will thoroughly search my other dreads, but if I find any more lint stuff that's not near the ends, can I get rid of it without combing them out?! Would a deep cleaning of some sort help this at all? Or should I start preparing to comb?! If my hair was darker I wouldn't mind so much, but I have red hair, so the blue/green clumps show up rather well. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!

I have so much weird crap in my dreads.

Lots of white things from my bed.

    Oh well.

i dont know what lint means but im guessing you mean the really small pieces of fabric or something along these lines...if so then yea same here...i havent examined my dreads that closely, they dont seem to be in there, but ive found this stuff in some of my tryin-to-dread dreadlings....its really hard to get out but i dont know the potential threat...probably just the thought that there's some weird stuff stuck on your head and nothing more...still creeps me out tho.

lol no one will see the tiny bits of lint.. your hair will eat them and it's not a big deal. It won't harm you or your dreads. Regardless of how 'well' you maintain them, you're gonna pick up tiny flecks of things. Especially from your bed.

I recently noticed a tiny pinpoint of black in one of my dreads ( I have very blonde hair ) and when I went to pick it out.. it didn't just come right out like I expected... instead I started pulling out about a 6 inch long piece of black thread.

Didn't see that one coming! No one else would have EVER noticed that though

hahaha... yeah, my dreads eat all kinds of lints. no one will notice unless it is right there at the edge of the dread, and you can usually pick those out. i wouldn't worry about it too much. maybe switch to a different colored towel? maybe red :) definitely sounds like it's lint rather than mold too... mold wouldn't look like lint.

    It's probably lint.

    They make no-lint towels.

    I use one.

I used to get loads of shit stuck in my hair before it was dreaded - I still do now. It's nothing to worry about :)

lol at "adds colour and texture"
dont freak out dude, i have plenty of random stuff in my hair. most of it seems to be of forest origin. just pick it out when you see it, its not a big deal and it wont affect your dreads.

lol, mine are like that too. :) The length of my locks are like a core sample in ice or Earth- you can sort of see what was going on in my life at a particular time lol.

One really funny one - a few years ago when we were on the road, we had these maroon fuzzy seat covers in the van and they used to shed and integrate into my locks. :D Sometimes I still find bits of those. Other than that - lengths of silver and gold wire are common in some lengths of mine, some small beads and such that have integrated so much there's no pulling em out... and yes, lots of lint, random lengths of hemp twine and embroidery floss, etc.

One of the cool things, I've always thought, about dreads is that they tend to pick up bits and pieces of your surroundings. Whenever I spend a notable length of time somewhere it seems like I come out with some sort of "souvenir" knotted up in me. :) Unless it starts to smell, no worries!

humblebee u know where chucks farm is in pa? chuckstock? aka sunflower farms?
well the last time i was there, we parked in the feild, i opened the car door and a bottle fell out, i leaned out to get it & when i sat back up my dreads felt weird, so i toucjhed em to see why...the entire feild was burdock...those lil sticky balls from the burdock attached to my dreads by the pound, literaly making all my dreads be stuck together in 1 huge mass ...spent 4 hours just getting them seperated, and 3 more days picking out the remnant peices
i've had so many twigs n leaves in my dreads its not even funny..and if u say me last year in ark, with all the mud every single day theyd be caked in mud tillthey were 4 times as thick...but even with all that abuse theyre very healthy and happy and clean...most of the time if i see a colored string in 1 i just leave it there, but sometimes if its really hangin out i will try to pull it out

Yeah, it is probably just from drying hair with a towel. Did you ever wool rub your hair? It could be from the wool as well if thats the case. I wouldn't worry, if it comes out it comes out

i keep finding other people's hair in mine lol! as if eating all my hair wasn't enough, other people's hair is fair game too. my lover sheds like a fucking dog in the middle of the summer, and i'm always finding curly blonde hair stuck all up in my dark locks. haha... it's a souvenir (sp?) of this part of my life i suppose!

Ouch, burdock can be no fun! I've had similar before, but thankfully my locks aren't floor-drag length yet. Last year we went to a fest where we had to be very hush-hush about smoking, so a few times a day we'd go wander off way into the woods off the beaten trail, and I got a lot of twigs and stickies in my locks.

"Nature's Vel-cro" Funny thing is, I occasionally will put sticky velcro onto things - lighters, pens, etc. and stick them to my locks when I need them handy but don't have hand or pocket space. :D I find a lot of my husband's hair in em too. He sheds like crazy and teh dreads, they swallow it.

Haha, oh man, thanks everyone. I was reeeeally tired last night, I didn't realize quite how freaked out that sounded. It's all good. I will switch a lint-free towel, and let my hair eat whatever else it wants to! :)
