Lots of good stuff on that list but I don't feel like wading through a sea of asshole fans from other bands to see them. Guess I wont be going this year. This shit is getting too commercialized and the vibes aren't good.

That's also what they said about Woodstock 1999.

    Woodstock 1999 riots

Turned out that this "music festival" was marred by riots, rapes, and wanton destruction of property. So much for so-called "music festivals".

Do you want your town trashed, young people put in danger, women raped, property vandalized just so you can listen to some "music"?

You're right, Bonaroo is not Woodstock 1969.
    These are different times indeed.
All the more reason while organizers and even the fans themselves should exercise caution and judgment when going to an event where a large number of people are gathered.

Not to stray out of topic, but we can learn from lessons of fiascos like Woodstock 1999 and the Station club fire tragedy in Rhode Island that claimed the lives of more than 100 fans.

I'm sure no one intends to go out and watch a "music" event and end up getting hurt or worse getting killed.

dude look at the line up for woodstock 99 and bonaroo 08, its completly different in every way. just because ONE metal band is playing, doesnt automatically mean riots and fires. thats ridicolous.

i definitley think it is a big dissapointment. there's a lot of good acts mixed in there, but a lot of shit. metallica, kanye, against me, o.ar....fuck that shit.

theres going to be a lot of jocks and meatheads, and while i hate to be judgemental, its hard to ignore the antics of some drunken frat boys.

i never even went to bonaroo, i kept waiting for a year that looked worth it, but never could justify the 15 hour drive and extravegent ticket price for what looked like an ok fest. 2003 looked amazing though..

all good. thats all i got to say.

    Sad sad line up:

The massive summer music festival Bonnaroo has announced its 2008 lineup and, like last year, it continues to move away from the domain of patchouli and hemp and more into the mainstream world. This year's lineup includes: Pearl jam, Metallica, Kanye West, My Morning Jacket, The Allman Brothers Band, The Raconteurs, Death Cab for Cutie, Broken Social Scene, B.B. King, Sigur Rós, Ben Folds, M.I.A., Iron & Wine, Talib Kweli, Gogol Bordello, Rilo Kiley, Mastodon, Lupe Fiasco, Chk Chk Chk (!!!), Ladytron, Battles, Vampire Weekend, Tegan and Sara and about a million others.

    Exactly!

I believe that we've already learned our lessons from Woodstock '99. I mean Tool was at Bonnaroo last year, and no one seemed to mind. True. Tool and Metallica are worlds apart when it comes to the kind of music that either group plays, but I'd definitely say that Tool was far from the kind of music that Bonnaroo usually sees.

Also, a few people that I'm going with this year happen to be Metallica fans, so don't be so quick to judge metal-heads. Most of the metal-heads that I know are really laid back people, and do enjoy a lot of different kinds of music. And if people cause problems, it's because they're jackasses and not because of the music.

Besides, there were a lot of other conditions that made Woodstock '99 so bad. The hot weather, the extremely high vendor prices, the lack of sanitation, the general attitudes of the people who attended the show. The line-up for that festival sucked anyway. To tell you the truth, I wasn't all that surprised that it literally went down in flames.

But I wanna go to actually experience A festival. Also being a big fan of road trips, I can't wait for the long trip from Philly to Tennessee. Yeah, it may not be a free concert, and the line-up is far from ideal, but it still gives me a chance to experience something that is only once in a lifetime, twice if your lucky.

Um yo, TN in June is almost unbearable hot. Vendor prices, especially inside Centeroo, are CrAzY and tickets are hella expensive nevermind travel costs. Sanitation? Well, if you consider shit smeared all over every portajohn at nearly all times of the day good, then maybe Bonnaroo is sanitized? The line up for the Roo this year? Marginal, at best, and that doesn't seem to be my opinion alone. I think the Roo is going to ask for problems to arise.

My personal opinion is that the Roo is getting to be too much. I sincerely doubt that in 5 years Bonnaroo will exist.

there were several freakouts and PCP od's at Tool. That's why they only played 45 mins. I was there with the medics. i can only imagine what kind of stupidity metallica and kanye west will bring.

haha thatd odd i've never heard anyone slanging pcp at a festival. every single drug i've been offered to buy, except pcp. i remember last year some ghetto black guy was walking in the middle of shakedown latenight screaming , "ROCKS, WHO WANTS THE ROCKS" thats the worst i've seen. that and dope, but no one selling dope is that loud about it, because it's looked down on by all the hippies, oxys too. my first festival i got a lot of shit from old hippies for asking for oxys.

Did you see how many cops there were last year? Two of my friends got pulled over out of a convoy of four and one got arrested! It was ridiculious the cops were just looking for some reason to pull them over. Thank god we were in the front as we had the most shit on us :p Damn, I'm not going this year. Too expensive plus the lineup sucks. Last year was the best. Tool, STS9, Flaming lips (didn't see them though :( )Girl talk, Galactic, DJ Shadow...nuff said.

The Lips rocked it. Sorry you missed out. There was PCP on site last year. People were selling it on spearmint. They couldn't have played more than an hour, hour 10 tops. I heard 45. anyways What was my point? oh yeah, booking those 2 acts was a VERY bad move. Tool and those guys are worlds apart. expect insane security, and extreme stupidity (moreso than is the norm for bonnaroo) .

Most festivals have a shitload of cops on the highway leading to the site, and cops before you enter the grounds, but once your inside theres no cops at all. Except for a few festivals that i heard of mad cops arresting people illegally and spying on them with expensive equipment. It was wakarusa and high sierra i think.

I saw people getting arrested in the campgrounds. And there were more cops last year then the year before. I was talking about this one particular strech of highway that was going through a small shitty ass town in Tennessee. EVERY cop was out looking for people going to bonnaroo. My friends bail was $1200 for a gram of pot and a few Adderall which are prescribed to him. It was so bad.

I wasn't hassled by cops at all. In fact, I didn't see that many driving into TN. I'm not ignorant. I knew they were there. I also knew not to speed, have my mirrors blocked, write stupid crap like Bonnaroo or bust on my windows, etc.

Once inside the Roo, yeah there were a lot of cops, mostly mounted. I wasn't bothered by them at all, but I wasn't selling dope. The helicopters got to be a little annoying though.

Cops aren't my problems with the Roo.
