Okay, I'm doing this from memory here, and it's been a long time, so bear with me...

"I am the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not have any strange Gods before me."

Doesn't sound like "be my slave" to me... Doesn't even sound like "don't believe in any other gods" to me... Sounds like "I made you, so I'd better be your number one." I have no problem with that personally, but I know some people have trouble with it.

PS: Not trying to preach by throwing quotes around. Just trying to figure out where the idea came from.

 

I do understand what you are saying, but what I am trying to say to you is, the secretary could be putting her own slant on the words, possibly in a sneaky way, possibly in a well-meaning way, but it is still tainted. We have no way of knowing. What if God showed the prophets visions rather than spoke directly to them in words? What if they were misinterpreted? What if man misunderstood and wrote something wrong? I think it's a possibility at the very least.

 

Is there some circular reasoning going on here? The Scriptures are just God giving dictation. How do we know this? The Scriptures say so!

 

About spoken words and written words:

I got messed up when i was 25. Things weren't making sense and started looking for answers. I NEEDED to understand and it seemed as if my life and my sanity depended on it.
To cut a long story short, a year and a half later of soul searching, on E one night and at the point of orgasm (and i approached that orgasm with the mantra 'just love' on my lips) ... i let go. It's the best way i can describe it, i just let go and i don't know how. As far as i know i let go of control, judgement and all inhibition. I gave up and it felt like failure, like dying. Lying back as the peak of a tremendous orgasm subsided a great light appeared before me and i felt as one with it ... i describe it as 'merging with and becoming love'. Symbolic visionary stuff appeared ... feathers, golden wings and a golden door with strange heiroglyphics. Auras surrounded everything and my conciousness seemed able to travel outside of myself ... in fact i had lost awareness of my body in those moments and it seemed that 'I' WAS that conciousness alone.
This light. It 'spoke' to me (like telepathically ... not words), but it 'said':
"Well done, you have learned to love but you can't stay here ... you must return to your life, treat your body like a temple and ... come back straight".
And the experience subsided what seemed like minutes later. I was back in my body again.
Anyway ... try as i might to describe this whole experience and how i got there ... i simply can't, words simply do not do it justice. I simply cannot put across those moments or the meaning of them with words. And i cannot grasp the meaning myself now i am outside of that experience. Only within that experience did i understand it fully so to me, writing it down after the event is just a shallow portrayal of it ... like a fake or reproduction antique ... it's just not the real thing.
After the event it was hard for me to fully trust in the experience because i knew i had taken E that night and felt that possibly there may have been some hallucination ...possibly. Only within the experience did i know that it was real. And now, looking back i don't even know what that light was (although i suspect that love may have had something to do with it). Was it god? Was is Lucifer (the light)? Or was it the core star of a guide or maybe just myself?
Yep it's a mindfuck alright, but i can't see how words, spoken or written can do any real justice to that experience. Despite the light and the auras and all the visionary stuff probably the most remarkable thing to me was the realisation that i had been there before... although i can't say when because i don't know, but at the time i knew that it was my real and true state and that i had been there before and that i had spent more time in THAT state than i had in my 'normal reality' physical state. In short, it was like putting on a comfortable old pair of slippers.
The next day i dragged myself to a friends house and tried to tell him about it but it was pretty useless trying, although he did seem to understand that i had 'been somewhere' and that it was valid and i wasn't a nutjob. Thanks Luke!

So to me, everything in the bible, despite the valid experiences i'm sure all the prophets had ... is simply tainted because it's written down after the event. Tainted by thought and uncertainty... and the human beliefs of the day.

Catholicism is not even true Christianity. It's a pagan-flavored-off-shoot of the real deal. So don't go telling us about the Catholic Church and things we already know as proof God doesn't exist. So many people assume no one has thought of the dark uses of religion before, and that they're enlightening the retarted believers.

Most of us believers have given a lot of time to meditate on our faith and have accepted and reasoned its weaknesses and strengths. It's funny how so many people generalize Biblical stories and don't even know the freaking Scripture it comes from. Somehow recollecting what they heard in Sunday School is going to make them the masters of Christian knowledge?

Do not hate the religion, but if you must hate, hate the fools who have turned it into something it is not. Something negative and of this world. All religions preach the same thing: Show love for all as you would have love shown to yourself, and to favor not the material things of this life, but work for the deeper, spiritual rewards. I don't see the problem in that.

On offerings, tithes. While it is true that most churches today don't have a tithing system (where a certain percentage must go to the church) most churches rely on donations from its congregation to survive.

I would also argue that all religions teach the same thing. many "primitive" (and i use the term not negatively, but as a demarkation that is often used in religious theory) religions relied on religion and magic to sustain their existence.

A lot of my belief is based on feelings, so they're not really based on anything, but I believe that it's more about intentions than anything, so it's hard to explain how I feel about this one. Perosnally, I disagree with that take on it, because really, why send a good person to hell just because they never found God, or were put off by the idea of Him that was projected by a very limited source. I just can't see Him being that cruel about it. I believe that's why Jesus died for us. We're worth saving, even if we've been led away from Him.
It may sound like a crock to you, but it makes sense to me.

Actually, hellfire is one of those lies that “wonderful” Satan has spread about God. The Biblical Hell is the common grave of mankind and even that will be done away with when God cleans up this mess Satan started. Being dead is just that dead, like a long dreamless sleep. It was Satan that spread the lie that you will not die thus enabling him to spread the lie that after death God will torture you for ever. When in reality, in death you can’t think or feel anything, so torture would be impossible.

So is there no hope for dead mankind? The hope is in the resurrection, basically all mankind will be resurrected and given a second chance at life on a paradise earth without Satan to there to constantly lie and mislead them.
