I've posted a number of selected photos from the eclipse on Wednesday in my gallery. Some of the photos could use some detail but it was about as well as my camera can do in the lighting conditions The camera was affixed to a tripod and various sensitivity and aperture time settings were used depending on the stage of the event and what I was trying to capture details of. One strategy I attempted but gave up on was 15, 30, or 60 second exposures. The problem, believe it or not, was rotational in nature... that is my subject, the moon, is an object which is in the constant state of changing position in the sky and even a 15 second exposure bears this out by elongating the spherical shape and blurring details. This is one reason that the longer (one second) exposures are fuzzy. The full moon needs but a quick exposure and I set my camera to daylight settings and white balance preset, ISO, and aperture- that limits the exposure time and amount of light that is used to create the image. The full moon, being the brightest object in the sky, will completely wash out if I set the camera for low light. One downer is that it has no manual focus. Fortunately the machine is able top actually find the moon and do an able enough job getting it into focus. The redder photo is a longer exposure that exaggerates the red end of the light spectrum which is what is managing to reflect in low levels even as the moon is more or less fully in the earth's shadow. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did taking them. The rest are in my gallery.
damn dude... i'm no photographer, but your shots are amazing. the eclipse was quite the event, very powerful. and your shots still hold that energy vibration. way to go!
Thank you! I was lucky... it obviously was clear. Tonight's weather would have obscured it behind clouds and snow.
very pretty... i still have to upload mine off my camera.... great magnification...i used my spotting scope and just aimed my digital camera thru it but my shakey hand made half of em turn out like crap... very nice photo's tho...
Well without a shutter timer my pictures would have been at the mercy of my less than steady hands as well. Thanks again folks... time for some shuteye!
nice work dude I was set up to take pictures...but 30 minutes before we had a cloud bank roll in and closed down the show nice pics of what I missed thanx for those
I'd have been quite disappointed. I posted them on deviantart and got a good bit of response there-- I checked and found similar photos in related categories there that just blew mine out of the water... makes me want better equipment but I'll have to just be satisfied with an inexpensive digital for now. Glad everyone liked them.
