Hi there i'm new on the forum, and some of you might have caught my thread about my problems with wax and a friend not know what she was doing!! Well i've finally got all the wax out of my hair with a lot of washing and combing, and feel that its back to a state that is wax free and healthy!!! I was seduced by the pretty pages of DreadHQ and believed what they wrote, about creating dreadlocks, and now i wish i hadn't. Having spent a few days on here reading about the right ways to start dreads i'm a little bit over loaded with info now. But have had fun reading about all your knatty adventures, and looking at the beautiful pictures of your dreads. What i decided is that i'd like to start my dreads off by backcombing, to give a little uniformity to there size, the only problem is that i'm really worried about letting someone touch my hair after the above incident, unless i knew for sure they knew what they were doing, but honestly i haven't got anybody i feel i could trust to do it. How hard is it to section and backcomb my hair myself, or would i be better off trying to find someone who knew what they were doing? One of the biggest lesson i've learnt from reading threads on here is that there is no quick way to dreads, and that a lot of patience is required. The more i read the more the idea of them being a natural thing sinks in and i'm starting to really look forward to the journey it'll be. So really i think the point of this is to ask whether there are any kind wonderful dreadheads in the sheffield area who'd be willing to lend me a hand, and will of course not let you do it for free. Peace and love, Alex Anyway here's a link to show how my hair is now after removing the wax http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e74/teknodj/26022008241.jpg
do it yourself! i did my backcombing myself, and it wasn't bad. took a while, made my arms sore, but it was well worth it in terms of self-accomplishment, and taking a journey with my dreads! check out my timeline blog on my dreading process on my myspace page (www.myspace.com/isismagician) if you want to see how it's been going for me over the last 7 months! your hair looks like it's ready to go again... good luck! pm me if you have questions/comments... i did the dreadheadhq kit thing, but after 4 or so dreads that were waxed and gross, i washed it out before i finished the dreading process. but yeah... my blog tells the whole story!
your hair looks really good and healthy now. you can do the backcombing yourself... I did, it was pretty hard but only because I did it the whole time standing. I spent maybe four or five hours on it (I believe that's actually not long, I just didn't go mad about the tightness...) and each piece was a different size and a bit funny looking... afterwards to keep it from looking so weird I just got my hair very wet and for a few days wore it tied back... the thing is though, if you aren't into "maintaining" your baby dreads, the backcombing will just fall out anyway and the dreads will form again on their own. it's a process that requires time and patience, no matter what you do... I'm glad you won't be using wax. all you need is patience. so best of luck to you, and you'll look wicked hot as a dreadhead. peace mate
nakedtreehugger--- Thanks for the advice, really enjoyed reading your blog was very enlightening and they are looking beautiful, i think if i can get someone to section my hair i'm going to backcomb them themself, because then i can do them to my liking, and will not feel unhappy that they aren't what i want. Will keep in mind your offer of advice if needed. And i think i'm going to start a blog to document my journey like you as it's great for newby dreadheads to give them confidence and advice!! cheers oilymoily the vote of confidence is greatly appriciated!!! )
tekno - glad my blog helped! it's definitely fun to document with pictures and blogging just how much of a journey the dreading is! i was looking back through my blog the other day and it was amazing to see just how far my dreads (and my personal growth) have come!!! best of luck to you... and let us know a link to your blog so we can keep up with your progress!
