Hi I'm Rosie I live in Herts. I'm still at school but i'm NOT just a silly kid. I have a genuine interest in this sort of thing. At school i have an ambition i'd like to start a sort of meditating club sort of thing. I'm all new to this type of thing, and i'm fully aware going to have to do a bit of research before i can do my ambition. I would like to attend some classes so if anyone near/in herts can help please feel free to send me a personal message. I'm not sure what i'd actually like to do as i know there is lots of different types so i'm going to give anything a go. Also if anyone has any advice or just want to say hi please feel free!
    many thanks, Rosie.

Your first lesson will be one of self awareness.

Its rather odd that someone who knows so little about meditation would wish to start a club. If you seek lessons that badly, I say build it and they will come. You will enjoy it so much more if you can find a few locals where you live.

I bet they're out there somewhere.

    Just like you.

    Waiting for permission.

You have put out the intention. Put some effort into it - look in the phonebook/online for teachers or groups. Try the Hindus and Buddhists. When you want something enough, it happens. Trust me. The universe cannot deny you.

I wanted to attend a nude yoga class, but the only ones near by were for gay men and seemed too sex-oriented. So, I started a group at meetup dot com, and now the group has 27 members, not including spouses who come along. We have three teachers in the group. It's like xexon and Bhaskar said...If you build it, they will come. The universe cannot deny you. Very true.

I concur with most of the other posters on this forum. If you build it they will come. You just need to pick up a book on the type of meditation you want to engage in. Meditation isn't always sitting in one place acknowledging the Chakra's. You can dance per Gabrielle Roth (5 Rhythms). You can pray like Mother Teresa did simply listening for "God" to speak. You can float on water with a snorkel mask on. The list could go on and on. Just follow the energy that is leading you in this direction and don't ever try to contain it.

    Hi Rosie,

There are ways to meditate. You will have to get a Mantra. Mantra meditation is powerful and helps the person overall. Best person to get a Mantra from is an empowered person, who him/her self is carrying it from an ancient lineage of meditators.

There is one person who does it online at ashram.com.au

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Oh, I didn't understand mostly of your post.
Is your ambition to have a meditating club. You don't need to have one just to learn the skills. Just a friend or acquaintance that really knows the thing.
She can help you with that.

Hi Rosie, at this stage, you need to do some more research and try some different meditation techniques to be able to decide what will feel right and work for you. This is definitely something you can do by yourself, but, yes, at some point you might want to seek out live instruction and a group to share the experience with. There are a lot of free resources on the web, take a look at www.meditation.org.au and the meditationpodcast.com Good luck :)

Choose a tranquil location - one free from distractions.
    2
Decide whether you'd like to have meditation music in the background.
    3
Select a comfortable chair or place to sit, and assume a sitting position with your spine relatively straight.
    4
    Close your eyes.
    5
Breathe in, allowing your rib cage and belly to expand as you inhale.
    6
    Exhale slowly.
    7
Concentrate on your breathing. Be aware of each breath and the feelings of deeper relaxation.
    8
Allow thoughts and feelings to enter your mind. Acknowledge them, allow them to pass, and refocus on your breathing.
    9
Open your eyes after you feel more relaxed and centered.
