contamination? Is it possible for a healthy cake to have a faint bluish tint? I used a spray bottle without a drip shield until told not too. Could these water droplets have bruised the myceleum?

When water touches a cake, it turns blue. That's a good sign. What's a drip shield anyway? What kind of casing layer did you use?

I didn't use casing. I followed the PF-tek innoculated with ecuadorian spores. My terrarium is a 10 gallon piece of tupperware with an inch of standing water and hydroclay balls at the bottom. A heating pad creates steamp etc.

the fruiting bodies are not the only part of the fungus that will bruise blue. a tint is not contamination.

you'll know if its contaminated by very OBVIOUS growth of a completely seperate fungus (usually blue, green, or black, like bread mold. it will be easily distinguishable from the mycellium) or else by a pungent sour odor, indicating a bacterial rather than fungal infection.

i highly recommend throwing out any contaminated cakes, but from the sound of things, its just bruised mycelium. a little water wont hurt it, honestly, there are lots of techniques for taking care of your cakes. some people even soak them in water overnight after harvesting a flush in order to replenish the cake's moisture and more easily keep up with heavy fruiting.

in the future, however, i would recommend using perlite instead of hydroclay balls. you can simply add a little water to the perlite and it will humidify the terrarium wonderfully, almost no need for misting unless its seriously drying out in there. read up about it at the shroomery.

also, google "the pf tek for simple minds" for a much simpler and easier to follow, yet still very effective, manner of using the PF tek. simple variations which make things much easier, imo.
